The NFL thread 2004-2005

Well, it is opening night for the NFL, so I thought that this was an apropriate time to start this thread and get some action in the sports forum...

As I look at the scoreboard on ESPN.com right now it tells me that New England currently leads Indy 27-24 in the foruth. This is a pretty good opening game, but I'd be hesitant to take much from the outcome (remember how both the Pats and Eagles were crushed in their respective openers last season.)

Anyway, I look for the Eagles to do very well in the NFC again this year...And please, please, please, please, please let it be the year that they get over the hump...I can't take much more punishment.

State your thoughts on the upcoming season.

Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005

I've never been too keen on the NFL, im more of a CFL guy, i like the game better. But I have always liked the Titans since they entered the league..Stupid Houston leaving then getting a lamer team back...whats the point I ask you. What!?!?

But being proximity wise, I am slightly fond of the Seahawks, considering all of their games are televised...Im guessing all NFL games are...but meh.

Go Seahawks and Titans......Texans too...only because their name makes me laugh with pity.

Colts looked so good in a lot of areas last night, and I know the loss will not cost us a playoff spot, so it doesnt worry me.

Edgerrin James (you HAVE to hold onto the football, my man) looks as good as ever. Top 5 back again, I say.

GO COLTS

that's fine, because Colts > Packers

We'll see in a couple weeks [face_hype]

and Germy, about your Eagles.

This HAS to be the "do or die" season. McNabb has his chance to really take the team to the Superbowl...and show his true colors. I'm interested in seeing how this team produces.

Well, yeah...It's Super Bowl or bust, and the pressure is squarely on the shoulders of Reid and McNabb this year, which is really tough. McNabb doesn't have the "****ty receiver" excuse anymore as he has a perrenial Pro-bowler in Owens. The defense is muched improved with Kearse anchoring the D-line and their spiritual leaders in Trotter and Douglas returning. The RB and DB situations are the ones I have concerns about, but I'm hoping it doesn't slow us down too much. I expect great things as does the whole of Philadelphia. The NFC doesn't look that intimidating to me. There is a lot of hype behind Minnesota and Seattle, but I have a hard time believing that either of those teams is better than the Eagles. I have no idea how I can still believe in this team despite the heartbreak of three years in a row, but here I am, back on the wagon...The Giants will get pummeled tomorrow anyways...

I feel the same way. Even if the Eagles have failed to get to the Super Bowl three years in a row, I still have hope. I'm glad we have Owens, Kearse, Trotter, and Douglas.:D

Phhhhffff.

Its all false hope. Thats all it is for you. If the Eagles win the superbowl, the Universe as we know it will cease to exist.

Titans/Seahawks baby. :p

sorry my man, but the Titans are gonna be hard pressed to make the playoffs when they're in the same division as Indy.

on the other hand, Seattle will make the playoffs DUE to the division they're in. but will burn out in the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs.

NFC - up for grabs. If I had to go with 2 teams, I'd have to say Carolina and Philly.

AFC - powerhouse. Pats, Colts, Chiefs, Ravens, Broncos, Titans, Bengals...I think it'll come down to the best current matchup in the NFL - Pats and Colts

They still have as good a chance they've had the past three years. Just because they didn't make it in for three years in a row, doesn't mean it can't happen this year. It's a different year. Of course the pressure of missing it three years in a row doesn't help, but the Eagles are still a great team..maybe even better than they were last year, but I don't have anything to back that up since I haven't been paying attention. You know, lately you've been against a lot of people..I think you just do it because you like a good argument/fight.

Naw. I just like the Titans and Seahwaks. Sorry if I like things alot. I will learn to hate them just for you. Maybe that way if I hate everything, i wont say things, then people wont accuse me of falsely doing or saying things that i didnt intend to happen.

Sounds like a plan.

It wasn't the fact that you like the Titans and Seahawks as being the two teams to get into the Super Bowl, it was the way that you just said there was no hope for the Eagles at all.

"Its all false hope. Thats all it is for you. If the Eagles win the superbowl, the Universe as we know it will cease to exist."

There is hope for any team at the beginning of the season...well more hope for other teams since they're better.

Anyway, about my last comment..I only said that because it of you saying the thing about "false hope". I suppose I didn't really have to say that now that I read over all the comments that were made in this thread between you and I, so just forget about it. All I really want to say is that the Eagles still have a chance at the Super Bowl..

Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005

Eagles 31
Giants 17

McNabb: 26/36, 4 TD, 0 INT. Spread the ball to seven receivers.

Owens: 6 receptions, 68 yards, 3 TD
Pinkston: 3 receptions, 73 yards.

Westbrook: 17 rushes, 119 yards. 3 receptions, 42 yards.

That's the offense I like to see. :D

That's what surprised me, even if it was against the Giants. He actually caught the ball, and that one play was a pretty big one! I guess Owens taught him something.

That's actually not too surprising to me, and I'll tell you why. Todd Pinkston will never ever be a "go-to" type of receiver because he is way too small to go up against the better corners. However, when paired with a "go-to" receiver such as T.O, a secondary talent such as Pinkston can achieve a lot because he is not the main focus of the defense's attention. The problem with last year for Pinkston was that he was the secondary receiver to James Thrash who was, in my opinion, an even more mediocre player than Pinkston. Todd has great hands and speed, and I'm glad that he contributed today, and I expect more of the same.

Being an NFC East fan (Redskins) I can't stand Philly. I hated TO with the 49ers, and I really can't stand the sight of him now. But I have to admit, they did look EVIL against the Giants. I watched that game and was so confused how all the receivers where so wide open, not just TO, but everybody. McNaab confused that defense like a school boy during puberty. I'm hoping it was just the a show of how bad the Giants defense really is.

As for the Skins... I'm excited that they got Portis. They needed a dominate running back after they got rid of Davis. And no, Spings is no Baily... but he is still an awesome CB. As of right now, I think the Skins need a good QB. Brunell will do, they just have to work out the kinks before they are actually going to do something against somebody like Philly.

Even though the Redskins are in the Eagles division, I don't really hate them. They're a pretty respectable team too. Portis and Brunell are good additions to the team, and of course Joe Gibbs being back is very good as well. This team will do well this year, not spectacular, but pretty good.

It's weird that he only had 1 yard. I guess he must have gotten negative yards on other plays.

Sorry for the double post, but...

2-0 instead of 0-2 baby! Nice game tonight, lots of offense, but the D held them to the FGs when necessary. I'll take a 2-0 record going to Detroit and Chicago in the next couple of weeks. Way to go birds.

It's good news. I think the refs did a horrible job with the penalties though. Go Eagles.

The only trouble you'll have is beating New England for the division..which is obvious. I suppose they could get the wild card, but it's too early to predict the wild card spots, especially in the AFC.
