Baseball Record Broken!!!

Ichiro a Player for the Seattle Mariners broke the 1 season all time hitting record! The record stood for 84 years until it was broken. Ichiro has 258 hits in the season with 2 games to go.

Wow, that was fast. I just watched this on TV a few minutes ago. My dad was like "you need to watch this, it's history." And so I did.

But when they showed the stats of ichiro against the last guy to have it, I was a little let down. Ichiro had A LOT more at bats than the other guy, and his batting average was a lot lower.

Also keep in mind that back when the other guy had the record the season was 8 games shorter.

But on the channel im watching it showed the list of people with the hits, and all the people in the top 5 or so with hits for season, was back in the 20's and 30's, meaning Ichiro is god damn awesome. It has nothing to do with the amount of games, because look at the stats for top 5 or 10, the majority of the people on the list are from over 70 years ago.

But damn I love the Mariners.

Just a question, why is Ichiro's first name on the back of his jersey and not his last name? Like, in all the baseball games i have ever played with him in them, they say "Ichiro" not "Ichiro Suzuki"...If anyone knows, that would be awesome.

EDIT: Mariners are tied for most consecutive hits in team history.

well a lot of japanese people have Suzuki as a last name, so his manager decided to put his first name on so everyone would know who he is.

I thought this was gonna be about Adam Dunn, who recently set a new single season record for strikeouts. As a batter.

Good for Ichiro. I've always respected him as a player and he deserves the record.

And yeah Typhoid...That's how your Mariners get it done? By finishing in last...Not a very good way to get it done if you ask me.

Phffff....your just jealous Ichiro doesnt play for you. :p

At this point, and being a Mariners fan, I wasnt expecting a breakout World Series contender season.

Im just super happy Ichiro got the record. It stood for 84 years, and this is history.

But when i said "Thats how my Mariners play." I mean more of like, Ichiro....and maaaaaybe Edgar.....he doesnt need to retire...i mean come on now..

Nintendo wins!

I'm glad Ichiro got to come play in America. This is cool news.

(If anybody didn't know, Nintendo owns a good part of the Mariners - and they're one of the key players in bringing over Ichiro.)

Is it just me, or did that not make any sense? It does matter how many games there are, because Ichiro had 8 more games in which to beat the record. The fact that the top 5 or 10 are from over 70 years ago means that THOSE guys were better because they set a record with a fewer amount of games in which to do it in.

I was saying that since there are 8 more games now, dont you think someone recent would be in the top 5? That is why I said games mean nothing.

And I was getting defensive because it sounded like you were attacking Ichiros record credability....and i dont take kindly to people who dont take kindly to Ichiro.

I dont think they had 90 - 100 mph fast balls in the 20's

Is anyone here related or know someone that is 100 years or older? If so, how does it make you feel?

Good for Ichiro.

And I though that their family names come first, and their first name come second.... Just like Yao Ming.

Different countries.

And Ichiro is his first name. Suzuki is his last name.

I think it is just because of what Fox6 said.

And yeah George Sisler set the record in 154 games, and Ichiro took 159 (or 158? 160?) but we're not going to talk about that.

Great job by Ichiro. He's my favorite baseball player, and the Mariners are my favorite team. It's been that way since 4th or 5th grade. Though my dad is from Philly, and my mom is from Chicago, the Mariners are my favorite. Second are the Phillies, then the Cubs, and the Red Sox. All four teams haven't been too successful in the playoffs or the World Series..

Dont get me wrong, the Mariners have been one of my favorite teams for a very long time (when I was a kid I liked them because Nintendo owned them, and when I grew up that liking just kind of stuck) and I think it's awesome that Ichiro beat the record. He is by far one of the best (and probably the best) hitter in a long time. He has proven that by breaking a record that no one else could, even with the 8 extra games.

I was just pointing out that our athaletes dont seem to be as good as they were back in the day.
