Christopher Reeves Dead

Just saw this on http://www.drudgereport.com/ that Christopher Reeves is dead but won't be public until Monday. Can't verify 100% yet but hopefully its not true :( He was someone who was pushing stem cell research shoving Bush's crap down his throat about how Stem Cell research should be prohibited except for a select few.

R.I.P. Christopher Reeves if its true

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead?

I dont think its true...peraps it is....you would think they would make it public immediately.

And I like how where it says "....MORE....." the more is not a link, just text.

If it is true...yes, its a travesty, but im not commiting to any goodbyes yet. Until i know im not trying to be had.

I'm not sure whether I should tell other people or not. I would think other places would've confirmed this already if it's true. Hmm, I'll keep quiet until tomorrow. I hope it's not true.

Some families keep things like these secret for a day or 2 so they can get funeral arrangements (and not to mention calling close friends/family members) done before the news media swarms them with phone calls wanting interviews, etc..

Now I shall re-pay my condolonces.

R.I.P.

Who knew Superman could die.

I admire him for his stem cell aknowledgements, and realising they could vastly change the world.

Wow. A childhood hero - gone.

Hopefully he finds more peace in death than he did at the end of his life.

Anyway, R.I.P., but his death isn't sadder than others'......

This is too bad.

I think I'll watch Superman in honour of him tomorrow.

Man, thats saddening... He'll be in my mind and heart today...

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead

Wow, this is really sad... especially since a lot of the research for finding a "Cure" for people with his type of injury was advocated by him. Without him actively there to fight for a focus on spinal cord injuries, others suffering might have to wait even longer to be healed.

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead

If I go crazy then will you still call me Superman?
If I’m alive and well, will you be there holding my hand?
I’ll keep you by my side with my superman might,
Kryptonite... Yeah!!

October 10th 2004. The day Superman died.

for some reason i have this song stuck in my head:

"Bye bye miss American pie,
Drove my chevy to the levy but the levy was dry,
good 'ol boys were drinkin whiskey and rye,
sayin this'll be the day that I die."

I was curious to see what Maddox's reaction would be to this. Looks like he hasn't changed his opinion.

That might be a little harsh now.....you know.....considering it...you know...was fatal.

Canyarion 10-11-2004 06:39 PM

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead

Nono, the fall of his horse wasn't fatal..... he died of a heart failure.

Maddox is trying to make a point though, a lot of people are selfish with stuff like this...

........... :wtf: COME ON PEOPLE!!!!!

He was just another person. Persons DIE. D-I-E!
Don't pretend he's your father or something.

Kitana85 10-12-2004 08:58 AM

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead

Canyarion, thats not relaly the point... he used his celebrity to help a whole lot of people, yeah as Maddox said, he did it for selfish reasons, but it was his celebrity that really got the issue of spinal cord injuries on the preverbial map. Without his advocacy, I fear a lot of the research will not continue.

Joeiss 10-12-2004 09:05 AM

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead

I was definitely not affected by his death, but my parents seemed to care a bit, just because he was more in their generation or whatever. But even with that said, they didn't seem to care too much.

RIP man.

Xantar 10-12-2004 09:16 AM

Re: Christopher Reeves Dead

The point Maddox is missing is that Christopher Reeve never pretended to be advocating various kinds of research for anything other than selfish reasons. He would have been the last person to deny it. But in any case, his work benefited a lot of people anyway. And I wonder what Maddox would have thought if Christopher Reeve hadn't done any of the advocacy work he did. "Christopher Reeve is such a bastard. He gets his neck broken and he still doesn't use his celebrity and fame to advocate stem cell research. I mean WTF!?"

The other point Maddox is missing is that many people admire Christopher Reeve's will to live. Yeah, he had the money to get all kinds of world class care. Do you think that mattered to him when he first found himself unable to move anything other than his head? I think a lot of people don't expect to ever benefit from spinal cord research, but it's still admirable that Reeve and his family could move on and it's sad that Reeve never did walk again even though he truly believed with all his heart that he would.

But hey, what do you expect from the puerile black-and-white world of Maddox?

Well sure, but some people do take him seriously. :p

Besides, I don't know about you, but I don't see much humor in calling someone who just broke his neck an ***hole.

Edit: Eh...isn't that word supposed to get censored out? Or have I just not noticed a change in policy?
