Capcom Sales

Taken from gamespot:

TOKYO--In its latest company profile report, Capcom has disclosed it plans to release a total of 10 games for the PlayStation Portable and three for the Nintendo DS during the current business year started April 1, 2005. Five of these games have already been announced, and the PSP editions of Viewtiful Joe and Devil May Cry could see the light of day before 2006. Further information should become available as the September Tokyo Game Show approaches.

Capcom plans to sell 1.45 million PSP games during this business year, which is nearly 10 times the volume it sold by the end of March 2005. Those sales were of the company's only current PSP offering, Vampire Chronicle: The Chaos Tower. The game sold a total of 150,000 copies by April 1, 2005.

With only three games in development for the DS, it seems clear that Capcom has decided to favor the PSP in its plans for the future. All three of Capcom's upcoming DS games have already been announced: Viewtiful Joe DS, Mega Man Battle Network, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Capcom plans to sell half a million DS games during the current business year. These three titles will be the first offerings for the DS from Capcom.

The company expects a 3.4-million-unit increase in sales of its PlayStation 2 games, but it also forecasts a massive decline in sales of its games for Nintendo platforms. Capcom expects a net profit of 3.9 billion yen ($36.3 million) for the current business year. The company made 3.6 billion yen ($33.5 million) during the business year ended March 31, 2005.

The rest of Capcom's FY 2005 sales projections are listed below.

FY 2004 Sales Results (4/1/2004 - 3/31/2005)
PlayStation 2 - 40 titles, 7.3 million copies
GameCube - five titles, 2 million copies
Xbox - seven titles, 250,000 copies
Game Boy Advance - seven titles, 3.4 million copies
PC & Misc. - 11 titles, 400,000 copies

FY 2005 Sales Estimates (4/01/2005 - 3/31/2006)
PlayStation 2 - 55 titles, 10.7 million copies
GameCube - four titles, 350,000 copies
Xbox - eight titles, 750,000 copies
Game Boy Advance - four titles, 1.25 million copies
PC & Misc. - zero titles, zero copies

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now this article irks me for a number of reasons. Capcom seems to be really jumping ship to the PSP, stating that they expect thier Gamecube Sales to really drop off. But look at the numbers for 2004...they release a whopping 40 titles on the PS2 and only sell 7.3 Million copies, yet they release 5 titles on the Gamecube, and sell 2 Million Copies. Now I dont really feel like doing that math, but its pretty obvious that their Gamecube games are selling much better than their PS2 games. Yet theyre jumping ship and moving to the PS2 and PSP. I just dont get it, thats all. They talk about slumping sales on Nintendo platforms. No **** your sales are going to slump if you only release 4 titles on a platform compared to 55 on another.

They seem awfully confident in their Xbox numbers. That's kind of funny. What seven titles are coming out for Xbox from Capcom, anyways?

Re: Capcom Sales

Oh well. Whatever happened to that 'uber awesome exclusivity deal' ;) :p I guess Capcom needs to realize just how many games are being released.

Theoretically, if you multiplied the number of GC - PS2 (ie times 8), GC sales would've been about 16 million (if my math is right). But thats a huge theory but at least it gives feasability to the fact that Capcom tries to BS their way out of making it sound like Nintendo is d000000000000000med

Re: Capcom Sales

Gamecube got Resident Evil 4...that is going to bloat percentages. The other Capcom titles probably sold poorly-moderately

Take away the PS2 Capcom bestseller and GC Capcom bestseller (RE4) and I bet the average is very close if not in the PS2's favor

Hence why I said Theoretically :p

Re: Capcom Sales

You may do the math all you want, but Stu said it perfectly. You also have to look at which titles were released.

Capcom could've had 100 titles for the PS2 but only a few could've generated so many sales....RE:Outbreak, Devil May Cry 4, Onimusha 3...... And for Gamecube Resident Evil 4 and Viewtiful Joe titles sloped the percentage.

Yea, so. I could say the exact same thing about the PS2. "The PS2 got (Insert popular game here). Thats going to bloat percentages"

I dont see how its any different.

You listed three PS2 games that could have "generated so many sales," but only two GCN games that sloped the figures...

Re: Capcom Sales

I guess you guys dont understand percentages...

if 2 out of 5 games are, say, 2 million sellers and the rest are 100,000, the percentage is going to much higher than:

if 3 out of 40 games are 2 million sellers and the rest are even say, 300,000

Re: Capcom Sales

It's not me thats not understanding.

Sony can ship 100 HDTV's to Circuit City and 50 HDTV's to Target. Say Sony reports a big sales boost from CC and a decline in Target.

But in CC they would have 50" WEGA's and in Target they could have 50" HDTV....

Just because theres more in one, doesn't mean thats the reason for the sale....It matters what's on sale too.

Re: Capcom Sales

Well if you put it that way, the PS2 had 40 chances to have hit million seller games, and the Gamecube only had 5. Which tells me Capcom's games are selling better on Gamecube. There's really no way around it.

Perfect Stu 06-03-2005 09:12 PM

Re: Capcom Sales

if I put it what way? the correct way?

Capcom is not going to pump out 40 million-sellers...honestly now, you're reaching too far. I guaruntee you put those same 40 titles on Gamecube instead and sales would be lower. Just like if RE4 had released on both system at the same time, PS2 sales would've been higher than Gamecube sales. That's just the way it is..."there's really no way around it"

Jason, Link. Lets just let the issue drop in peace. Its obvious the PS2 is superior to all
