Says the MPAA: "Let's sue 12 year olds!"

Read here.

A 67 year old man was sued by the MPAA for up to $600,000 for movies his 12 year old grandson downloaded.

Scary. Another reason to move to South America.

I can see where they are coming from, but according to the GF his grandson didn't know it was illegal. And seeing as how they deleted them afterwords and also that they own them already on DVD kind of makes it seem silly.

The MPAA's efforts are worthless. Peer-to-peer computer networks have no central server. Napster did and that is why they were brought down. With P2P, users act as clients and server. Targeting them one by one is about as effective as tageting pieces of hay in a bale.

The only problem with your arguements is that his grandson has no rights on the internet. The IPPA serves as a basis of rights for users of the internet over the age of 13. even if it's p2p or whatnot, he shouldn't have been using the internet...had his grandfather known he was doing it... he wouldn't have let him.

Also theres the fact that the computer SN is registered to his grandfather I'd presume, making his grandad responsible for everything done on their IP.

The funny this is I would never have known that one could even download movies unless the media made such a big deal out of people doing so. That was back in 2001 when Morpheus was the P2P program of choice after the shutdown of Napster. It's like how people folked to Napster when they were sued due to all the publicity they were receiving.

that is insane.

here, there is a family that if they dont take down their nativity scene, they will begin to get fined $100+ a week.

Well...it's still November.

Maybe Michigan has laws against tacky-ness.
