Flamethrower? Whoo Dee FUCKIN Doo!!

IGN just did an entire piece on how Halo is breaking new ground with the inclusion of a FLAMETHROWER in Halo 3.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/812/812177p1.html

I'm getting a little tired of Bungie making a big deal out of gameplay innovations that are almost a decade old. Just because its the first time its been included in a Halo game does not make it unique or special.

Yes, Halo fans (I am one of them), I know that the draw of Halo has never been the innovation of the weaponry, but instead its execution and seamless integration with the gameplay, but still... A FLAMETHROWER??? Unreal has had more innovative weapons for since I was still teenager.

I realize that the human side needs to have weaponry that is more based on earth physics and near-future tech, but I don;t think a hand held GAUSS rifle or a micro-wave emitter are that hard to think of for near future. Just watch Future Weapons on Discovery to see what I'm talking about.

Well thats my opinion, whats yours?

I don't want a fucking flamethrower in Halo 3.

i've yet to ever see anything 'breaking new ground' in a halo game.

both halo games have felt like fps games i've already played years and years ago on PC. everyone was all up and up a while ago about how halo had dual wielding guns and how that was so new.. pfft. been there done that then just like this now.

if its in halo, it must be revolutionary!

But seriously, why the flamethrower? That's so Vietnam.

Flamethrower = Annoying

Vietnam? Wrong war. Wasn't revolutionary in Vietnam, either.

Halo has always been very polished. That's the only good thing I will say about the series.

According to my Hollywood history lessons, the flamethrower existed at least as early as WWII.

Yeah, they used them in handheld forms, aswell as attached to tanks.

Yea, Halo blows. Played it for PC and it was LAME...

Anyone who talks up Halo has never played a real FPS

Ok, lets all calm down. Halo does not blow, its just not revolutionary by any means. I love the games. The action is well paced and the the gameplay mechanics are superb. The music? Thats what is revolutionary about the game. I've never heard a soundtrack that would get me more worked up in a game.

I'm talking about innovation, and how I want the Halo franchise to start be more innovative when it comes to gameplay, and not just the franchise that perfected what I call "gameplay/presentation synergy"

EDIT: WHOO HOOO! I made the new Marquee! I'm PUBLISHED!

By the way, is Halo 3 supposed to be the end of a trilogy or anything?

I imagine it will continue to be made as long as it continues to make money. That always seems to be the case when it comes to videogame franchises. Just ask Mario and Samus.

The problem is Consoles are mainstream and PCs just aren't. Video game systems are (or can be) more of a social thing, while PC stuff is usually all one player anti-social stuff. (Its online, but yeah.. only one guy sitting in front of a PC 99% of the time.) PC FPS developers have all tried to make things for consoles and they usually fail in comparision to Halo.. and older ones were fail compared to Goldeneye/Perfect Dark.

I like Halo as a game, but to me its hardly revolutionary. When I look at the Halo 3 trailers it looks exactly like Halo 1 to me all over. They should have at least changed cheif's outfit! Its pretty much just a solid game with solid contros, and a decent story line.. and sadly hardly any console FPSs can say that. @_@;;;

Expanding on that even further, we live in a day and age where very little is revolutionary. It's easy to credit a person back when Pac-Man was the first game to have a story-line, and John Carmack was able to develop the first side-scrolling PC engine. They were huge breakthroughs, and considering only a handful of people were in the business, someone did it first, and it's easy to point a finger at.

These days, no matter how new it may seem, it has most likely been done before, or some failed indie project, or some no-name PC game that no one ever played. Game designers get their ideas from other games, just like movie directors learn from each other.
