Games That Show Progress
Not really sure how to word this, but was taken from the final ListenUp podcast.
Basically, if you had to choose one game to take back like let's say 20 years, and show gamers back then to show them the advancement or progress that games have made, which would it be? It is a weird question and didn't know how to word it, but to help out give you some of their answers World of Warcraft, a game that millions of people play across the world while linked up and questing together. Wii Sports Resorts, the ability for a game to mimick your actions in real-time while doing things you would actually do in real life. Portal, a complete package that you can download straight to the source. And that's it I think, so what are some of yours? |
Re: Games That Show Progress
I would probably say Fable 2 or Mass Effect. I think these games exemplify the best story telling combined with technology being used to let the player really affect the world they are playing in.
(this was my 4000th post!) |
Re: Games That Show Progress
I will pick a game from each of you: Mass Effect and World of Warcraft.

Re: Games That Show Progress
That is a tough question.
I want to say Shadow of the Colossus but that is just because I love that game. |

Re: Games That Show Progress
In Metroid Prime it has a progress percentage. So does Castlevania.

GTA3. A full, 3D city that is living, breathing, and interactive? Yeah, that's pretty fucking awesome. Also if you showed any of the 3D Mario, Zelda or Metroid games to the NES generation...just wow.

Re: Games That Show Progress
I'd say The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. But that's becaue I love that game.
So maybe Half-Life 2: episode 2 too. |
Re: Games That Show Progress
1 game to rule them all...
Questions: 1. Are we talking about a current game, say within the last year or so? 2. What are we talking about when we're showing gamers what games have become? Graphically? Gameplay mechanics? Story? I mean that, or are we talking about a game that exemplifies all those qualities and more? 3. What's with all these avatars that are photos of Bab? |
Re: Games That Show Progress
1. You decide.
2. You decide. 3. You decide. (Or read the general forum.) I have to say, when I read 'games that show progress', I thought you would mean games that show a percentage of how far you are. Like in Metroids, or Zack & Wiki. So I was already trying to think what I think about that. I think I like it, although it's usually unclear if it refers to the main quest, or to collectables etc. Sucks to beat Metroid when you think you have 40% left. |
Re: Games That Show Progress
I thought about this all yesterday and I'm going to have to say shadow of colossus as well.
It's one of the few games that actually made me feel like a little kid again when playing it. Every new boss was exciting. It was a really cool story even though there was hardly any dialogue, and it had a really inventive way of having puzzles and no puzzles at the same time. Bosses in that game were puzzles. Although I was disappointed with the final colossus, the rest of the game was stellar. The graphics were just mind blowing for when it came out, and there are still few games that can match the expansive world, or just the magnitude of that game. It's one of the few games I feel like I could go back in time and say, "one day games will be like this, though not many, but those that are, they are worth waiting for... sometimes." Lol. EDIT: I just thought about Disgaea DOOD! DOOD WHAT AN AWESOME GAME! DOOD! It's a pretty good example of how funny and awesome a game can be. |
Re: Games That Show Progress
I might say Metal Gear Solid 4.
