New Job After 10 Years

I just wanted to share with you fine folks that after 10 years in more or less the same job I have finally quit and am now entering a new field. You may recall that I worked at a movie theatre. I was hired back in 2005 while I was still in high school. I kept getting promoted, so I thought I had a decent shot at making a career out of it. I enjoyed it, so I figured I would be doing better than a lot of other folks.

I don't regret trying like I did, but it eventually became clear that the powers that be were not going to be offering me any opportunities to advance or grow for reasons beyond my control. I started going to school for a Cyber Security/Network Administration degree this semester and just got hired for an entry level position at Dell. Its a little bit of a pay drop, but I think getting relevant experience, especially so early in my education, is worth it.

Nice! Sometimes it's good to find a new job, especially if it gets boring and you're not learning anything new.

I've been doing legal administration for almost 2 years now. We're now starting a new project, while the previous one is still continuing. It's quite diverse, the colleagues are nice, the pay is great and the job offers a lot of flexibility.
It has nothing to do with my MSc degree, but I don't care anymore.

Good to hear! I quit my last job due to mainly a lack of advancement opportunities among other things, and im glad I did! I work for a different company doing basically the same thing I did at my prior company, BUT I got a decent pay raise to leave and the benefits, vacation, and raises I have gotten at my new company have been a LOT better than the old.

Way to go. I havent had to deal with large company employment issues before.
Working for smaller contractors has been a good experience overall. Variety is the spice of
noice.
I want to find a teaching job in Hokkaido in a couple years. There are a dozen ski resorts close to Sapporo and its the best planetary powder during feb/jan.

My job is really boring.. but it's why I've been visiting this place more often. Weird.
