Every day a fight against yourself... Or: Getting up!!

Argh! It's always been a problem with me: getting up from your bed!!

I'm sure you recognise it: you've slept well and long (8 or 9 hours) and your alarm clock goes off. With a sleepy head you turn off and you try to shake some sleep off.
But you're still tired, although you've slept long.
Your bed is still so warm and soft.
Your alarm clock was a bit earlier than nessecary; you can still stay in bed for 5 minutes.
5 mins?? 10 minutes are ok...
Ah lovely, so warm... :)

Before you know you fall asleep again and miss your school/college/work/...

You know you have to get up.
You HAVE TO.
You fight with yourself to get out of bed.
You sit up straight and wait for the sleep to go out of your head.
You put you feet on the ground.
Almost you fall in bed again. But no, now you have to push yourself and go on. You stand on your feet and w00t! you did it: you got up. :D

GameMaster 12-25-2002 11:36 PM

Yeah...never get this way on weekends...ya know what the problem is? If awoken by something like an alarm clock, you probably aren't finished going through your sleep cycles, waking up in the Delta Waves when your EEG brain patterns are similar to that of someone in a coma. But when alotted the time to wake up naturally, you usually awake in wither the R.E.M stage or one of the other not so deep sleep stages...Ahh, the information of psychology class///

Sometimes I feel great, but sometimes I feel like crap. Usually I spring out of bed like they do in those happy commercials... knowing there's probably lots of chicks, games, and happiness ahead. Somehow I convince myself of this most of the time, but if I don't, I usually get up anyways because I'll probably get bitched at by my Physics teacher by the time I get to class. And yeah, without my alarm clock there's a noticable difference. :D

I didnt really read the posts in the thread.. cept like the first one... but it is SOOOOOO hard to get me outta bed.. im like angrist i guess... or whoever you describe in that post... but ive noticed something... if i wake up and for some reason think its a saterday a lil bit earlier than the alarm clock goes.. im ok.. as long as my brain doesnt think its a school day.. but if it knows its a school day.. it wants to sleep  and i cant control it.. but.. yeah anyway...

I do sound like whatever your describing..

lets see yeah but me and my girlfirend do the hippy dippy so i guess it's that.

Angrist 12-26-2002 05:22 AM

Hey I used to have that avatar on a Dutch forum. :D

It sometimes helps to put your alarm clock in the other side of the room, so you HAVE TO get up to turn it off. But you'll have to stay away from your bed after that...

I have this problem fairly often. Another problem I have is waking up an 9:30, 10 on a weekend or non school day, and for some reasing thinking it is a school day, and panicing...but the panicing only lasts for like a second because I remember I dont have school that day. Also, when im almost asleep, I get this strange falling sensation, its amazing really, your brain makes you whole body think its falling, and I jump a foot and wake up in a flash...and then I smile and think there is that damn falling sensation again...

Destro 12-26-2002 01:05 PM

Getting up in the morning has never really been a problem for me.....I simply don't do it. Usually if I'm tired on a school day, I choose not to go to school. My schooling can wait, I would much rather be not sleepy than 'educated'.

Gettin up sucks.
