Do I have the worst luck or something?

My gamecube isn't working!!

It was working perfectly yesterday and for the past year

then i decided to play some Metroid Prime and it said it couldn't read the disc. So I thought Metroid Prime was ****ed up...

Well, I put in RE0 and it won't load because it can't read the disc.. I AM SO PISSED..

It had a 1-year warranty...too bad that's gone..

Does anybody have any idea what's going on? If not, what do I do?! Do i send it in to Nintendo? I've never had something like this happen to me..

:(

I suggest you clean the lens inside your GCN.

Pop the top, and wipe it with a clean, DRY piece of cloth. Then allow about 20 mins before powering up the system again (excessive heat also causes lasers to misbehave, see DC/Xbox)...

So if that still doesn't work, leave your GCN unplugged from the wall socket for about an hour or so, and then power it back up.

Other than that, I've got no other ideas...One guy I play PSO with got his lens dirty, and wiping it off did the trick just dandy.

Same thing is happening with my Xbox :(

The discs take longer to load. I hope it don't die on me coz i'm playing Splinter Cell (I love this game)

a) smack it
b) shake it
c) see if they sell a cleaning disc, that size. and use that in there.
d) call nintendo maybe the store you got it from
e) smack it again.

What ever you do, DON'T TOUCH THAT LENS without a lens cleaning kit. You have a higher chance of totally ruining your GameCube by touching it... Unless that's the problem. Maybe you or someone touched/scratched the lens by mistake.

I know it's highly unlikely, but maybe you didn't 'fully' place the games in both times. I remember one time I was getting the same message with SMB, so I took the disk out, and put it back in, but got the same message. I opened the lid, and pushed the disk down slightly until it would move no more, switched the system on, and it worked fine.

That happened to me last week. Call Nintendo, they'll have you clean all the disks to make sure it's the system, then they will tell you a bunch of crap and tell you were the nearest Service Center is. Just bring it there and they will replace it. You got to wait a week though, cuz it's mailed to your house. I'm still waiting for mine...

The weird thing is some games work... then after a few minutes, it will say it can't read the disc

I got the same thing, I could play for about 15 minutes and then I'd get the message. Just call Nintendo, even if your warranty is up. They extended mine, because it was a hardware problem...

That sounds kinda like what happened to my Dreamcast... The games started up fine, but as time went on, the load times got longer and longer until it eventually just froze during one of them... And it did that for every game...

Yep... I was told it could have been caused by overheating or something...

Luckily ours was still under warranty at the time so we didn't have to pay nutin, mm hmm...

Bluefire, the exact same thing happened to me, and I mean the EXACT same thing. Most games just wouldn't load, but if they did, it wasn't for long. Mine was a hardware defect, so I sent my Cube in and they fixed it.

Just check to see if they'll take your warranty and have it sent to a Service Station.

I got the read error one time when I was playing Sonic... I freaked out completely, and babied the Gamecube immediatly. I tried another game and it didn't work either. So then I rushed upstairs to look in the manual to see what was wrong. It said to consult the guys at the Nintendo repair center. Just before we left, I tried it one last time, and it worked flawlessly. Other people had these episodes with the exact same result. However, this is quite a different case..

But, Never, ever, touch the lens. Never.

If it doesn't work again, chances are it might be busted. Or, maybe just over-worked. Who knows... well, good luck bud. I can imagine how you feel.

Actually, I agree with everything in that post, including the possiblyility of the Black Cube's being evil. My friend across the street has one, and they have 4 controllers, 2 purple and 2 black. The 2 purple one's always worked fine, but for some reasons the C stick on the black ones started messing up, causing you to pump fake over and over again in madden, and in tony hawk causing the camra angle to mess up big time. It wasnt just a simple matter of the C-stick being moved during boot up either. The even stranger thing is, 2 of his controllers are interact, one of each color, the purple interact controller worked fine, but the black one didnt, same with the offical controller...it was like the system hated the black controllers or something. Strangly, after a couple of weeks of me having to bring my wavebird over to use, they all started working perfectly again. But as for scratches and stuff, Ive never had a problem at all with any nintendo product, (well the NES dosent really count) I truly believe that if you take good care of your Nintendo systems they will work good for many, many years. Same with the controllers.
