New Sony Handheld: EGM mag

Straight from egm:

"The rumblings about a handheld game system from sony have returned. the project code-named PlayBoy (which is not a portable ps1 and won't use cd's as it's delivery medium) has been reportedly been revived. we could hear something more concrete later this year, even as early as E3"

i thought, there's no way they can beat out the biggest established fan base in the world... then i said to myself.... oh crap, it's the 4/1/03 edition!

While this is an April fools joke, I think that if anybody has a shot at being successful in the handheld market (against GBA, that is) it's Sony... At least if it's name contains "Playstation" and it's not too expensive ;)

You could say GBA has a huge fanbase and all, and yes that's true, but also it's really the only handheld worth owning on the market... What about it's past competition? Neo Geo Pocket? Wonderswan? That's all fine and dandy, but neither of them are from one of the 'heavy hitters'...

*shrugs*

there are people who make portable consoles and here is a potable version of PS1

Sony Ericsson handheld. Like the N-gage. 64-bit. Yeah, that's not old news..

Unless Sony's making another one. Then they're just stupid.

The thing about Sony possibly making a hand-held is in the Rumours section of EGM. So I doubt its the April Fools Joke.

Yeah, I agree, sony would probably make some good competition for GBA. Given, I dont think it will come anywhere near GBA in sales or market dominance, but it may help Nintendo spiffy up their GB department.

*looks at the number of GCN owners* (aka Nintendo loyalists)

*looks at the number of Ps2 owners* (aka Playstation loyalists)

*looks at the number of GBA owners* (aka peple who have no choice)

I think The Ps2 handheld could do as good or better than the GBA, given the correct support.

Playstation loyalists? You mean Stu and his friends?

Sony has a big portion of the console market, but I would hardly call them loyalists. In fact, I wouldn't call them loyal at all. Gullable, yes. Loyal, no.

Only reason Sony had half a chance in the console market is because Nintendo screwed up. The problem is, Nintendo hasn't screwed up Game Boy in a decade.

How do we know? ;)

Nitendo hasn't really had competition from a name bigger than themselves... like Sony has finally accomplished.

Sega was the closest thing, but honestly, what has Sega ever succeeded at? I love my Genesis to death, but after than it's all down hill.

This is coming from the man with Sega's penis in his mouth.

Sega, Atari, Neo Geo, Wonderswan. All failed to GB supremecy.

Sega succeeded at Genesis. Sony succeeded at PSX. Wow, 1 and 1. And Sega knew what they were doing, something Sony does not.

And the "PlayStation Generation" isn't a big player for the portable market. You're forgetting something, it's too kiddy. Sony fans need to look "cool" remember?

Sony has no following in the portable market. They will be starting from scratch, not having any clue what they are doing, and trying to compete with the most successful game system ever.

I'm amazed at how much you can pull out of your ass. Sony fans need to look "cool"? Give me some factual evidence. It's really easy to take cheap shots and the industry leaders...you're failing to impress.

I particularly like this:

"And Sega knew what they were doing, something Sony does not."

Riiiight...But Sega does know a lot. Like how to put good talent to waste. How to butcher classics. How to create an unappealing console. How to rake in small amounts of money. And how to avoid success.

This is going to get ugly...
