Gamecube + Xbox = X-Cube?
I was recently reading something on IGN (unfortunately i couldnt find the link), and it said that signs were pointing to Nintendo and Microsoft working together on the next system. I think that would probly be the ultimate system, i mean think about at, all the exclusive games of Nintendo, with Microsofts more "North American" appeal. I think that would be pretty sweet, not to mention that working together they could create something very powerful.
What do you think, and have you also heard things like this? |
Re: Gamecube + Xbox = X-Cube?
Haven't heard that, but it would be an ultimate system. Sure would give PS3 a run for it's money. I'd rather keep Nintendo just Nintendo though.

Never going to happen. Didnt Nintendo turn down something like 20 billion dollars?
|
Re: Gamecube + Xbox = X-Cube?
I really need to see a link before I can really have an opinion.
|
sounds stupid to me.
nintendo partnering with microsoft is like mating a cat with a fish, they just dont go together. |
Re: Gamecube + Xbox = X-Cube?
Hmmm... 2 years ago I would have hated the idea, but after seeing the bad performance of the GameCube, it doesn't sound so bad!!
Sure, we can keep on dreaming that NEXT TIME, Nintendo will do it right! But it's never going to happen, Ninty only relies on it's fans from now on... |
Re: Gamecube + Xbox = X-Cube?
Seems interesting how Nintendo is always the butt of some kind of rumour. First it was Rare going, which I know happened, but when it first made the rounds.......And now this.
|
Very unlikely.
Again, this sounds like one of IGN's, "Wouldn't this be cool if it was true." |
Re: Gamecube + Xbox = X-Cube?
I agree with bond.... But I think it would be very cool if it happened. There should only be two consoles per generation, no more, no less.
|
Re: Gamecube + Xbox = X-Cube?
And why exactly is that, Joeiss? I don't think the price of consoles would have dropped nearly as much these past two years if it hadn't been for Microsoft entering the market. Not to mention online gaming. At the beginning of the generation, Sony was pretty conservative about online gaming. Xbox Live forced them to change that.
As for the topic at hand, there's no way it's happening. Microsoft can make the offer, but Nintendo recently purchased a bunch of their own stock to keep a controlling share and avoid a hostile takeover. That doesn't sound like the behavior of a company that's about to merge. Besides that, Microsoft is going to lose several billion dollars on the Xbox by the end of this generation while Nintendo is going to be making profits off the GameCube. Why would Nintendo want to merge with Microsoft? If anything, Nintendo would merge with Sony, but that's no more likely to happen, in my opinion. |
This is the only source I have but even this doesn't sound like it's really going to happen.
"I hate to lend credit to this ongoing rumor, too, but I figure I can't ignore it. At least one industry insider I spoke with brought up the whole Microsoft/Nintendo union; apparently Microsoft -- more than Nintendo -- is interested in some kind of partnership." It came out of IGN's mailbag, so don't expect it to really happen... http://cube.ign.com/mail/2003-06-26.html |
Re: Gamecube + Xbox = X-Cube?
Xantar, I just prefer two consoles because it would be cheaper for me to buy both of them. Its all about me, man. lol.

Would be cool though. |
It wasnt one of those "wouldnt it be cool" things, Matt was just passing info from an industry insider. He stated how its just a rumor.

I think MS and Nintendo would be a good match because all of MS's weaknesses are Nintendo's strengths, and all of Nintendo's weakneses are MS's strengths. Sony wouldn't make a very good match with anybody imo... |
