Goodbye Vet

This morning at 7:00 AM Eastern Time, Veterans Stadium was blown up. I was hoping that I would get to see it in person, but it was pretty cool on tv. It's going to be weird driving by the stadiums and not seeing the Vet there. I believe it has been up for 31 years; well it was. They kept mentioning how symbolic it was when the dust from the stadium went over the Phillies new ballbark, Citizen's Bank Park, and how it was "baptizing" the new field. Well, it's gone..and though most people hated it, it's kind of sad to see it go.

I extend an arm of sympathy to you during this time of hardship. Time will heal your wounds.

I wish I was home to see that, I bet it was pretty awesome...It's definitely sad to see the Vet go, as much as it was a rotten, dirty, and terrible place, it always felt good to walk in there to see a ball game. I still haven't been to Lincoln Financial Field yet, but I hear that it's pretty nice. I have tickets reserved for a game at Citizen's Bank Park for the 15th of April though, that should be cool.

We still have plenty of stadiums in there though. Before the Vet was imploded we had five in there, that was a bit crazy, four is still a lot though. Anyway, it will definitely be weird to go back home and see that the monstrosity is gone.

I believe that Philadelphia is the only city to have all four teams' stadiums in one place. It was pretty cool seeing 5 of them there. Citizen's Bank park looks great, and I love the brick on the outside. It looks old-fashioned, and even the lights are similar to the older ballpark style. I feel like going down to Patteson Ave. to check out the rubble from the Vet.

And how much taxpayer money was used for these projects, does anyone know?

Don't have the exact figures, but this was one of the reasons that there were lots of complaints about the stadium projects. Me, not paying taxes and living in Delaware obviously wasn't too concerned about some taxes to pay for sports stadiums, but I definitely would have been upset if I was a Philly resident. But, that's what happens when you can't get enough money for funding, you take it from the people...

Probably the Spectrum, it's the next gross thing around.

Ha, I never thought about that. I'd have to agree with Germy on that one, though the Spectrum isn't that bad. Maybe they went to the subway on Patteson Ave(god they smell so damn bad).

The Vet still owes Wendell Davis two, yes TWO knees.
