CD-RWs

Can someone tell me how to use CR-RWs? Are they just the same as CD-Rs? Today I started my digital imaging class and the teacher says we have to have some form of storage either Zip Drives or CD-RWs. I don't want to go out and buy a Zip Drive. I'll be doing the 'burning' on the PC so what program do I use? And is it easy to erase, add, and modify what you put on the CD?

Re: CD-RWs

A CD-RW is just a CD-R that can be rewritten.

I use Nero Burning Rom, but chances are things will vary from program to program. A CD-RW burns like a regular CD, however, you have to remove the information from it once you are done. Your CD burner should have an option for CD-Rewrite, especially if it is Nero.

In Nero, you have to go to CD Recorder up by the File menu. From there, it lets you choose the option to erase the data on the CD-RW. You should be able to burn the information on the CD just like a normal CD-R.

Couldn't you just use regular CD-Rs?

Is a Nero a free program that I could download from a provided URL?

Re: CD-RWs

Well maybe there are things that the teacher wants to use in a fast swap way like old flopies only bigger (Zip 100-200MB; CD-RW - 650MB)
Nero has a tool called InCD that makes your CD-RW work like a floppy, maning that you just drag in and out of the CD-ROM and it automaticly writes, copies, and erase the data. But this process cut's the CD-RW's life time considerably allowing you around 20-30 uses.
If it is used as a regula CD-R, you can burn all the information you need, and when it's full and you can change everything on it, you could just erase data, and you have another clean CD-R(W) :) I think this way you have over 100 uses (depends on the quality of the CD-RW)

Argh.. don't waste your money GM get a flash drive. soo much easier when I did computer graphic and design it was either that or a zip disk I mean I'd rather have the portable pocketable disk then to carry a cd that might get scratched..

This is the walmart version but I bet you can find cheaper and better :)

Or why not a USB storage pen. I/m not sure how big it's by now, but it's easy to use, fast in transfer, small for transport, and reusable until you break it.

Nero isn't free, but it's a good program for burning music. It's worth the money, I think, but you being a student and all......

If the CD gets scratched, you just make another one. It's not that hard. They are very cheap nowadays and if you don't have a backup on your computer then you might as well stop taking the class and learn common sense :p

Re: CD-RWs

Lol. true but I still prefer flash pens so easy no wasted time burning or backing up just the files going to the drive much faster than say burning or reburning a cd. :)
