Lightning is spectacular and very newsworthy... as falling out of bed is not.
*Survival Stories, on Maury Povich! *sp**
Bob: *twitches* Yeah... I got *twitch* struck by lightning back when *neck jolts* I was playing golf.
Joe (who is heavily bandaged): I unfortunately couldn't make it to that golf game. I had a rough night and *looks away* ... I fell out of my bed. It was awful. I was falling in my sleep *eyes swell* and then... I ... there were hard objects on the ground too!
Maury: It's ok Joe. You survived. And that's what makes you an angel. Now... everybody, send your money to these gifts from God.

Well... the odds that "you" will die by lightning or bed are much slimmer than the 1 of 2 million, or whatever it was. Lightning only strikes people outside, and bed-falling only strikes people who are in beds that are high... or people who are frail and in beds.
As for the snakes... their bites aren't insta-death like falling or lightning. Antidotes have been made, and people are aware of the threat of snakes.
