White wines I like with fish, and friut.
Sweeter red wines (light Merlots for example) are good with chocolate, and some meats (though I'm not a meat fan)
And heavier wines I prefer alone.

There are more types of wine, such as dessert wines, which itself is a term for a whole host of other types of wine (port, sherry, and many more).
