It's all in how you word it. It depends on how long the quote is, but a few words and a citation is usually practical. If it's longer than a few words, use quotes.
Find out exactly what you did wrong (there's a whole website for academic honesty at SFU) and rectify it immediately.
And remember, citations exist to prove arguments and make it seem like you've actually done some research on the subject, not to help you "write" your essay.
