And Gekko, they probably received lotsa buncha money which they could spend on the development of Halo. Now they leave with a lot more money than they had, so I think it was a good deal for the both of them.

I think this move was more for tax purposes than anything else. They are still partly owned by Microsoft. It also might have been part of their original merger agreement to eventually have a sofy split from MS.
In the end I doubt this changes much of anything.
