Re: Summer Movie Preview
I'm looking forward to Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr. is the man, and even if the script sucks I'm sure he'll deliver. Plus Iron Man is fucking awesome, Marvel >>>>>> anything else.
Indiana Jones is going to ruin the original movies, I just get that feeling. Raiders of the Lost Ark will always be a classic, so it doesn't really matter. I'm still going to see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Hellboy II looks amazing! Directed by Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrnth), I have really high hopes. Also, the first Hellboy is easily one of the best comic book movies to come out....maybe the best, the only contender is Sin City.
I didn't like the first Hulk movie so hopefully they don't botch the new one, but I have low hopes.
Now, for the Dark Knight, I have insanely high hopes. It will be nice to get Batman back on track. I really enjoyed Batman Begins, because it was an undeniably awesome _action movie_, but I don't know if it was a flawless Batman movie. The final fight sequence wasn't that great, and the movie was overlong. It was also trying to pass off some moral bullshit, and there was way to much pseudo-preachy crap at the beginning. I mean, Batman is a comic character after all. I personally thought the art style in Batman Forever was pretty good, despite the terrible story and acting. And thus far, NO ONE has captured the spirit of the Tim Burton films. These are comic book movies after all, a little campiness never hurt and everything doesn't have to be super realistic. I also think that this mindset is what hindered Casino Royale from feeling like a true Bond film. Right now there’s this trend to avoid campiness and art style and focus more on realism and drama in Hollywood. Batman shouldn’t be a drama and neither should Bond. That is one reason why Hellboy was such a good film, it was campy and had great art style
And if anyone says that Daniel Craig is the closest to Fleming’s Bond as Hollywood has gotten, I don’t really care. Cinema Bond is not Fleming’s Bond, he’s a different, much more entertaining, character.
