I'm excited for Windows 7, because it sounds stable and I completely bypassed Vista.
I heard all the bad things about Vista from the start most definitely. It was hard not to hear the derision for it. Things may have improved for Vista since then. But for me there was little reason to upgrade from XP for two main reasons
- XP works. It's stable for everything I do. And I personally like using XP.
- My job requires a lot of our own proprietary software and hard-to-find and altogether ancient (in computer terms) 3rd-party software. There is no guarantee any of that software would work on Vista, or that we could find equivalents.
If I were in high school or college and still doing a lot of PC gaming and building new computers, I probably would have gone Vista long ago. But now that most of my computer time is work time, stability and software availability (XP) is far more important that newness and flashiness (Vista).
Now that the two seemed to have combined -- stability and flashiness -- its high time to upgrade.
