Every once in a while I find the opposite to be true... I go back and play a game, and go, "how the fuck did I beat this as a kid, this is hard!"
I agree though...games that once kicked my ass are now easier. I think a big part of it is improved cognitive development...specifically patience. Once you figure out how to nail jumps (think Megaman, for example), it becomes a science of memorizing patterns and being patient enough to not push the A button and wait 2 seconds to jump and shoot. Or to have the patience to sit in a boss battle for 10 minutes while you whittle away their health.
And then there are games like Goldeney 64, which was frustratingly hard because THE CONTROLS AND FRAMERATE SUCK ASS. If you moused and keyboarded that shit anyone could beat it on 007 difficulty. But that is part of the fun I guess....
