I completely believe that everyone who is happy about this is fucking insane.
Part of me thinks Lucas did this as a "Fuck, you think the movies were stupid when I was making them?" type of action.
You hated Jar Jar Binks before? Have fun hating even stupider, more childish characters that Disney will rape for profit.
I think people who say Lucas ruined Star Wars are also insane. Each movie is equally terrible. Mark Hamill is a shitty actor, and he always was. The story and dialogue for ep 4-6 sucks, anyone who says otherwise either hasn't seen the movies in over 10 years, or is simply lying to themselves.
The only saving grace of the originals is Harrison Ford, and even then only because he had the balls to change his own fucking lines.
Case and point, episode 1-3 are written in the same poor form as the other movies, but now that the audience is older, and the style of movies as a whole has changed - people see them as being "Terrible" - because the general audience is more mature.
I'd actually argue that watching the first 3 movies and seeing how and why the Republic fell, and how the Galactic Empire is formed, and
why Darth Vader became Darth Vader is more intriguing than watching some punk-ass Mark Hamill talk to ghosts and struggle over conveying proper emotion while talking to a stuck-up British robot and a man-sized Muppet that talks in phlegm.
Anyways, I love Star Wars. Episodes 1-6. All of them. I love them for what they are - cheesy, campy movies that take place in a fun Universe to lose yourself in. All of the movies are bad, and that is what I love about them. The acting sucks in whole, the writing is painful at times - but the Universe is so goddamn awesome.
To be honest though, my only actual fear is that now that Lucasfilms isn't doing the CGI (unless they still would be), it'll be completely different stylistically, therefore garnering even
more rage - causing Disney to spiral off into mashup movie/games of "Mickey and Maul's Galactic Adventure", or "Chewbacca and Pluto's magic mystery mansion."
