Upside down M = W. WAR is a part of his name. Very clever indeed. He's like the flipside of Mario.
Waluigi on the other hand:
Mario has some evil guy who just happens to have the "M" flipped *ignores the fact that it is a "W"*. We need an evil Luigi too... like, um... What - when you replace the first letter of Luigi - has a secret meaning? Aww screw it... Waluigi, because Wario starts with "Wa". I don't care if half of "wa" came from Mario's "ma". *ignores the fact that Wuigi has a striking semblance to the often believed "satanic" board game, which would be considered half clever*
