Nintendo DS: Dead Pixel?
http://ds.ign.com/articles/568/568084p1.html
Quote:
"With a small number of Nintendo DS screens, one or two dots on the screen may appear to be "stuck" on a particular color, such as white or red. This effect is caused when a particular pixel (the dots that make up the screen) is not working properly, even with the high quality standards set by LCD manufacturers. You will find this situation is common in many LCD devices, (PC monitors, televisions, cell phones, etc.).
It's important to understand that this issue will remain limited to the pixels you have already noticed. The problem will not get any worse and you should not expect to see the problem in any other areas of the screen.
We suggest that you use your system for a few weeks to determine whether this interferes with your enjoyment of game play. If, after using your system for awhile, you feel that this tiny dot is too distracting, the Nintendo DS does carry a one-year warranty. We are happy to inspect and, if necessary, fix your system at no charge within the warranty period."

I have a dead pixel colored red. It seems to disappear sometimes though. Maybe I'll send mine in for a free fix.

Its an LCD screen.
LCD screens arnt meant for gaming.
When i was going to buy my computer, I wanted to pay a little extra for an LCD screen, and the guy said If its for games I shouldnt buy it, because it sometimes cant handle the rapid colour changes. Same with LCD TV's.

I think that's because of the low refresh rates. LCDs can't handle the refresh rates of computers, but I don't think it would be a problem with a handheld. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Game Gear use an LCD screen as well?

Signs point to yes.
Ask Dancing Alice
if it is.My brain uses AIML to format responses to your inputs, but I don't have one for that.
I knew I was right.
YOU? If you were, would you tell me?

You (or that guy) make it sound like rapid colour changes CAUSE dead pixels. But that's not how I learned it.
I had 1 dead pixel in my monitor, I could either get a 10% discount or a new monitor. I took the new one.

LCD screens are video monitors. they're meant for whatever you want to put on em. They just have trouble keeping up with the refresh rate.
Thats not really an issue on handheld units tho. the smaller the screen the less you notice the refresh rate.
And has nothing to do with the dead pixel.
If i had bought it and had that, i'd certainly get a new one, i'd want nothing but perfection if i baught something new. now if i had it a couple years and a pixel died. i really wouldnt care.

Re: Nintendo DS: Dead Pixel?
Standards for dead pixels are way too loose right now. I'm looking on some websites cuz I really want to get one right now, and if their LCDs have 8 or less dead pixels, you can't return it. IMO, if it has any dead pixels, it is defective and should be replaced free of charge. I mean, although it's only 1 dead pixel out of god knows how many, it will get distracting.

Re: Nintendo DS: Dead Pixel?
I haven't really looked for dead pixels on my DS, but I will now that you mentioned them.
LCD monitors are gay.......there's no way I would drop the amount of money needed to buy a good one just for gaming. You can get a 21 inch CRT monitor for very cheap now, and the CRT monitors have faster refresh rates, and the colors are more vibrant.

Wait, don't look. Ignorance is bliss, remember?
I think LCDs are absolutely gorgeus. GBA SP's LCD is great even though it's frontlit. And playing games on my laptop screen through an AV connection is just godly.

Re: Nintendo DS: Dead Pixel?
I love the flatness of my LCD monitor. If I'd had a CRT of the same size, I'd sit too close to the screen. Much too close for comfort and health.
I've never had any troubles with LCD monitors' refresh rate.
