Zelda TP - Impressions? Progress? NO SPOILERS PLEASE.
No Spoilers PLEASE!
I've got about 11 1/2 hours into the game so far, I'm really liking it. I'm trying not to miss anything (I won't know until I'm done I guess). I just got inside the 3'rd temple - I think I read somewhere there's 10? Seems like there's ~90-120 minutes of stuff between each temple (it seems to get longer after each one). All really good stuff - nothing feels like filler so far I'm pleased to say. And then each temple is taking me ~60-90 minutes.
The dungeon styles changed a lot between the first and second. The first temple had a lot of backtracking and puzzle solving, whereas the second seemed to just flow more and have more environmental treachery as opposed to thinking difficulty.
Anyway, I was just curious what everbody thought. So far I've got not much to say but good things. Horse combat was a bit rough at first, but now that I've got it down it's pretty amazing.
But yeah, post here with your experiences.

It's good for me so far. I've taken longer then usual to get things done since I've done alot of side things or trying to figure out where to go next
But past the 3rd temple, I'll say that much...since anything beyond that is spoiler territory.

Re: Zelda TP - Impressions? Progress? NO SPOILERS PLEASE.
Personally I'm dissapointed that the whole game is a rip-off of Beautiful Zelda by The Bonzo Dog Band...
But not really, I only just finished the first temple, but I'm'a'diggin' the game...
I dunno, I'm still getting used to the controls... The fighting is not terrible, but quite frankly I think one of the buttons should have been used for a normal attack... The swinging of the remote just seems a bit sluggish in comparison, although it works well with the spin-attack...
I also get thrown off by the fact that, when aiming a range weapon, the analog stick allows you to move your view left and right, but to look up and down you have to push the pointer to the top or bottom of the screen...
But overall they're just minor irritations that I'm already beginning to get the hang of...

Yeah, I felt the same way when I was at the first temple. It just gets better from there, at this point I'm not sure which control style I prefer. This one certainly has its delays if you're not careful. There's also a cooldown of 3 seconds on your spin attack since it's so easy to do (shake the nunchuck), which can be a frustration. But I think after a while I just sort of decided it was more fun regardless. For ranged attacks it'd be pretty hard for me to ever want to go back to an analog stick. For your standard combat, you just keep getting better at it. Eventually I'm sure I'll enjoy it immensely.
*Edit*
Beat the third temple. God the plot is just awesome. So much more cinematic than the rest of the other Zelda games.

Controls take a little to adjust but I like it. Granted, its not pixel perfect swings for obvious reasons (save that for light saber battles ) but I still like it.

Man, I'm on my way to the fifth temple. Just getting better and better.
I want to make one suggestion: Don't forget to explore places like Hyrule Field or Castle Town. I neglected a good portion of both for a long time, but there's a lot you can do fairly early and there are a few heavily sought items you can be rewarded for poking around.

You know I'm starting to think that I'd be happier playing this with a standard GC controller. I may trade my Wii version for the GC version.

Have fun not knowing which way is which.
I think I'll rent it to find out what mirror mode is like.

Re: Zelda TP - Impressions? Progress? NO SPOILERS PLEASE.
*SPOILERS*
So, I was going to post a thread detailing my thoughts on Twilight Princess (I think its the worst of the 3D Zelda titles), but I couldn't figure out exactly why I felt like that. The controls, while not as immersive and amazing as I'd been told, worked just fine. The dungeons and battles and puzzles were all fun. It was something I could place my hands on, exactly. And then I read this:
Quote:
The game, on the surface, appears to be a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time, but in reality, it's a game that takes place in Ocarina of Time's world with a totally new storyline. In most respects, Link, Zelda and our faithful villain Ganondorf aren't even the main characters. Real quickly, I want to say right now Midna is not a Navi. Yes, she performs the actions of a Navi, but she is a main character, and in many regards, the main protagonist of the story. The entire game is about Minda trying to save her world; about her sad story, about her struggle against Zant, the Twilight King. Link, Zelda and Hyrule are just caught up in the middle of this battle, which does stem from Ganondorf, but in reality, the focus is on Midna and Zant. Link does not develop in this game like in other titles. In fact, I felt less connected to Link in this game than any other Zelda title before it. The Wind Waker is superior to Twilight Princess in the realm of the characterization of Link, and that's something I will find myself admitting over and over again to remind people "realistic" is not always better.

That's from TSA at The Hylia.
That fits exactly. In fact, one of the ways I had even thought of describing how I felt was saying that it felt like some other, unrelated game that Nintendo decided could be a Zelda game, similar to Dinosaur Planet and Star Fox.
Its not just that, though. There's more. I just... I don't know. I liked it, it just wasn't as amazing as OoT, MM, or even TWW...
*shrugs and walks away*
Edit: You know what? Just read that whole article, and pretend that I was talking, because he gets what I think of this game dead-on. Exactly. His little paragraph on the controls? I had the exact, EXACT, same problems. Anyway...

Re: Zelda TP - Impressions? Progress? NO SPOILERS PLEASE.
I figure my impressions (I'm buying both) will be pretty similar, except the controls will be more traditional, and I won't have the nagging reminder that everything should be the other way around.
