Default New Years Resolutions

Do you make them? Do you find them stupid because people never stick to them?

I usually try to at least do something that will improve my life.
This year my goal is to smoke less pot, eat healthier, and work out/exercise as much as I used to.
I started this a month ago, so that it doesn't seem like a sudden decision. About a month ago I was around 200lbs, now I'm down to 170-175. I'm 6'1-6'2'', so I'm really thin now.

I want to keep up with my habit of riding my exercise bike 75km every 2 days - or try and do 40k a day.

As for eating healthier, I've already stopped eating chips, chocolate, pop, candy, and things like sushi. Crap intake is directly linked to pot intake, typically. If I do smoke pot frequently, I want to at least munch healthier things. Fruits and whatnot.

I kept my resolution from last year. I lost 40 pounds and have kept it off. My resolution for next year is to lose another 40 pounds and keep that off, and that will reach my goal weight.

Hmm...can't really think of anything for this year. I guess be more frugal and spend less money on frivolous things.

Also want to maintain my current workout regimen and paleo diet.

What is your target weight? What are you doing to lose the weight?

What is your workout routine like?
And what is that diet?

I go to a local CrossFit affiliate. We do high intensity functional workouts.

Paleo diet is essentially a low carb diet where you eat like our paleolithic ancestors did. The idea is that our bodies have changed very little since then, but because of the agricultural revolution, we eat totally differently, and it's not good for you.

Things you can eat on the paleo diet are meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and seeds.

Things you can't eat are any form of grain (bread/pasta/rice), dairy, legumes, and sugar. It also endorses non-processed and organic food, but it's not necessary. Dairy is also kind of iffy - paleo man didn't eat it, but for some people it's okay. The odd thing is that most people are lactose intolerant and may not even realize. I still drink some milk because it doesn't bother me at all, and it's a decent source of protein.

Basically you try to eat like you have a bad gluten allergy.

So far I've noticed higher energy levels during my workouts, I'm less hungry between meals, and I've lost a bit of weight.

The downside is that if you do eat something non-paleo it tends to wreck havoc on your system since you aren't used to it anymore. I went home for Thanksgiving and had all the bad-for-you thanksgiving food, and had heartburn for like two days. And I'd never had heartburn before in my life.

1) My target weight is 225. I topped out at 305 almost a year ago. I'll never be a thin man without working our like I did when I wrestled in high school, and that involved lifting weights and running 6 miles daily, and that's not going to happen with how banged up my body is after years of contact sports and ortho surgeries. I just want to be healthy, and my blood pressure has already dropped to normal levels after being somewhat high.

2) I basically just changed my diet, but did not go on "a diet". I started analyzing how I eat, and essentially I discovered I was addicted to carbohydrates. I wouldn't eat because I was hungry, I would eat almost in a panic due to my blood sugar levels. When I ate, I wouldn't even remember exactly what I ate sometimes or what it tasted like.

I adopted Atkins and then moved to a variation of South Beach. Immediately my appetite changed, I take longer to eat, and enjoy what I eat a lot more.

3) I don't work out at all. That's going to be one of my sub-resolutions this year. I want to start walking on a regular basis like I did when I trained for our Ireland vacation.

Hey man, congratulations on the progress thus far. I'm glad you have found a diet that works for you, and it sounds like you found a nice balance of still being able to eat things you enjoy.

Weight loss is 99% diet for most people, unless you're Micheal Phelps. It's hard to diet. This summer I was down to like 177, I'm back up to around 195 but that's because I have been indulging in bad food for the past few months. I want to get back down to 185. I run and lift, and I try to exercise 3 to 5 days a week. The thing is I love food, especially BAD food, so if I do 5 intense workouts a week I get more flexibility with my upper calorie limit.

Truth be told, at some point I'm gonna have to ween down to 3 solid daily workouts a week due to the normal, realistic demands of life. At that point it will be all about calorie crunching. Although I can never go vegetarian, I will explore some vegetarian dishes so that I can try and stay under 2000 calories for 5 days of the week, and have two 3000 calorie days where I can say fuck-all and throw back a few beers and some delicious fried food.

I've bottomed out at 1400 calories for my extreme minimum, but I just cannot do that and run 15+ miles a week. Also, 1.5 years ago I was tipping the scale around 265 I believe. So yeah....good times.

I think im going to try and work out or at least exercise more.
I also want to get a new job, and save up enough money to get a helicopter pilot license.
Other than that, im already in the midst of accomplishing my goal to move out of my parents basement. No more Costanza for me!

Last year's resolutions were (I think) to make at least one very good new friend and to gain 15 lbs.

I'll count my girlfriend as the new friend, but I lost 10 lbs this year :-( haha

For the coming year, I hope to gain 15 lbs (again) and read all the books I've collected.

I don't need the start of a new year for good resolutions.

I'm always:
- trying to get a good job
- breaking some bad habits
- improving my bible studying
- working on working out

Become more adult-like: Stick to a routine, pay taxes, wait until the end of the day to watch cartoons, etc.

I came up with short term, medium term, and long term resolutions for the next year:

3 months: Start doing more cardio on days that I don't go to the gym (running a mile or so)

6 months: Launch a web based business.

12 months: I'm calling this one "enjoy what you have" year. I have more games and books than I can get through in a lifetime, so I'm going to try to purchase as little entertainment products as I can this year, and focus on enjoying the ones I already have. This is intended to save me a lot of money as I will only be paying for rent, utilities, food, and gas.

A few exceptions are Gears 3, Pokemon Black & White, Diablo III, and Skyrim. But like 3 of those come out in 2011 Q4, so I'll probably try to get them as Christmas presents from various people, and only purchase Pokemon.

More masturbation, drinking, farting.
I promised to stop swearing but that is not going to happen.
Maybe grow up a little? No....

My resolution is to maybe formulate a solid plan/goal and move forward with my life. Seems reasonable to me.

I forgot about Dragon Age 2.

I'm going to preorder it and pay in full today.
