I already have the preference, and always have. I just haven't had an OS X Mac since my old 500 mhz iMac died on me (and really, it barely runs the OS anymore).

Would you like to see Apple put more effort into creating economical machines for people like you and I with smaller budgets?

They did that with the eMac and Mac Mini.

The Mini was a Godsend for me because it was all I could afford.

Go with Apple refurbs. But a previous model, refurbished, and save a ton. Plus you get a warranty out of the deal. You can usually find some for around $1000, consumer models that is.

Or you can always buy used... but that's risky.
