But my argument in the matter is that DS is a handheld for gaming purposes, and if they price it at $200 at launch then go back to when the Playstation first came out at $200.... the DS is no Playstation.........So your probably right about the safety net, it'll go down, but I'm just saying.. $200 is way too much for a gaming handheld.

Whilst Sony goes a little higher in price for the other features such as Movies, Music etc.

And I think SONY WOULD be safe going for $200 because not only can they make up for it in game sales, but they can make up for it in UMD sales. People can't play DVD's on it, they'll buy the UMD's out for the PSP.......... SUCH as........ ADVENT CHILDREN.....own4g3!
You can resent my comment all you want, I made it, and I pretty much still stand by it.

You say you try your best to compare the two, then in the very next sentence you claim they shouldn't be compared. That is special.

I think 200 bucks is too much for a gaming handheld, but then again we don't know the final price now do we. And for the record, I think it's too much for any type of portable device. I've seen way too many portable devices stolen/lost/misplaced to spend that much money on anything portable.

You say Sony can afford to lose money on the PSP, because they can make up with it on sales for games, movies and music. Now quite honestly, how many people do you think will folk over extra money to buy something on a UMD just to play it on a PSP?

Ok assume, that there is a great backing by companies to use UMD, which I highly doubt, how many people will rebuy movies they own on DVD or WHS for a UMD just to play on a PSP? Heck, I got 4 DVD players and I'm still edgy on buying DVDs of VHSes I own.

And will a UMD movie offer all the bonuses of a normal DVD?

I think you are giving the PSP atleast in that case too much of a benefit of doubt, but you never know.

for some reason your more aggressive than necessary...

I said when there is a comparison of the two, i try my best to compare them fairly not being biased. But, my opinion, in reality they aren't a comparable duo.....get it? ...should I explain further? You CAN compare two items, that just can't compare....it's possible...

and I think people will buy their FAVORITE movies they own on DVD, to watch it wherever they are on their PSP. it doesn't mean they have to rebuy all their DVD's...

[edit] let it be known...if it isn't clear enough... i prefer SONY products.... however i have no need to bash on other companies.... i have respect

Aggressive? I'm one of the more relaxed people around here these days it seems.

How can you not compare em? They are both handhelds, they both plan on playing games, they have some xtra features and for the most part they were revealed together.

It's like not comparing the Xbox/Ps2 to GCN because it doesn't have DVD player or HDD or stuff like that.

Comparisions are fun.

Now, it may just be me, but why not just buy a portable DVD player to watch your favorite movie on the go? I mean I'm sure there are some cheap ones, and even if there weren't. I'm sure the price of investing in a portable DVD player to watch your DVDs would probably be cheaper than buying a PSP then re-purchasing the movies on UMD, but then again that is just my way of thinking.

And I kind of figured you liked Sony products, it wouldn't take a first grader to inform me on that much.
