Yea I saw it. It was alright I guess. Actually about what I was expecting. A good summer flick. Nothing blew me away. Not a huge fan of John Favreau's movies.

Independence Day and Transformers are outright dumb movies, but they are incredibly entertaining and pack some huge ass explosions totally worth your while. Since I equate this movie to be a popcorn flick on the same level as the two films I just mentioned, I felt like this movie could have used one or two more big explosions scenes. As far as summer flicks go, Super 8 was a better film than this...but this had a better cast. Seriously, it was nice to see Craig, Ford, Rockwell, and some of the cast from Dexter and Justified.

I enjoyed it, and think it was a good take on "cowboys and aliens." But I could see where folks might think of it as being imperfect.

I had low expectations coming in. The movie did what it was supposed to do. Like you say, it could have used an explosion or two more. Also, they should have worked in a bit of Craig's experience, the kind which allowed him to totally go James Bond in the opening scene.
As far as it goes, I liked how Favreau changed the 'bad rancher' into something a little different. The action sequence near the end had a lot to be desired, at least in timing the different shots so that continuity wouldn't falter into the, it just took that alien 20 seconds to cover the amount of ground which they have been shown to cover in about 2 seconds. Ya know?
anyway, I'm not sad that I saw it, but a little dissappointed that I caved into the summer's crap offerings with this movie.
