I don't think it's a good idea.

If I go to a forum for the first time and I see that I have to sign up to even view it, do you know what I do? I leave, cuz I'm way too lazy to sign up just to view a forum at the risk of it sucking once I can see it.

The server should be upgraded. 70 or so people on at the same time is nothing, and it seems there isn't enough bandwidth to go around.

Well, it is an idea to make guests register to view the forums. We would of course have to simplify the registration process. Although if we do that bots from search engines will not be able to index GT, so we possibly won't have as many new members. It's something to think about.

IF that is possible of course...

I was wondering, if you hit 'refresh' button after the message... wouldn't that slow down the forum even more??

And couldn't you make some system that limits the max number of members online? Block online the member that just comes online? Cause now, NOBODY can use the forum when there's only 1 person too much... If you know what I mean.

Pisses me off too. I miss reading a lot of posts the next time I log on because it thinks I read them before. =\

It can't be all guests. Must be mostly bots.

Limiting the number of "new members" isn't bad at all. Only 1/25-ish "new" registered members are even worth their posting space. Get rid of guest visitations, and you will get more registration and less bandwidth clogging. If we want no blood in the forum, we can do subtle advertising without the help of Google.

Well, I've disabled a few things that may have caused server slowdown, which were not necessary. I've noticed a decrease in load times. Hopefully you guys do too.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the whole guests issue.
