Now, a contoversial return to the topic...

I suppose my fave has to be Timothy Dalton. True, he didn't have Roger Moore's wit and was et down by some utterly appalling scripts. But as far as portraying Bond as I see him (more like in the books - a hard smoking hevy drinking man with several large chips on his shoulder), he was superb. If he'd have been given a script as good as the one for GoldenEye (which had tones of some of Bonds ****ed-uppedness in it, as well as the excellent Sean Bean) he would have rocked supremely.

I just think Dalton was too good an actor for the scripts he was given. Brosnan is quite good, but not as funny as Moore, but he has some of the "psyche" stuff that Dalton did so well. Connery was OK I thought, but I just didn't find him to feel like the "real" Bond.

In my mind, more recent actors do Bond better than Sean Connery, but you still have to give credit where it's due: the man created the role. People in the future may play the role of Gandalf better than Ian McKellan, but that's not going to nullify the fact that Sir Ian made it a role to be taken seriously in the first place.

Now, I think that a lot of people in this topic are having trouble distinguishing the Bond actors from the Bond movies. I agree with sdtPikachu (surprise, surprise) that Timothy Dalton was a good Bond, but I really did not like his movies. Goldeneye and The World Is Not Enough were, in my opinion, the best Bond movies (keep in mind that I have yet to see Man With the Golden Gun or Goldfinger), and I think that's why so many people like Pierce Brosnan. Well, he's also a good Bond, but not the greatest.

I actually don't like Roger Moore for some reason. His eyebrow-lifting sort of puts me off. Maybe he's faithful to the book character, but I never read the books.

I like a LOT of Bond movies... and I can't define who is the best.

But the worst is Dalton (by far) because he was too much of a pretty boy to be Bond.

Heh, well Goldfinger is my favorite Bond movie so maybe that's why I like Connery best . Maybe not, I don't know for sure. But in my opinion, Timothy Dalton didn't look or act the part very well (had nothing to do with the movie because I didn't think Licence to Kill was a bad movie). I mean hey, if you and sdtpikachu think he did, then great because I mean we could all see our vision of James Bond in different ways. Also, I think Pierce Brosnan does a very good Bond too though, as I've mentioned before.
