Re: Last movies you saw
30 Days of Night. 6/10.
A horror movie with vampire-zombies in an Alaskan town. Enjoyable, nothing more. Nice concept, decent acting, ok atmosphere. Just some stupid things in there that could have been much better.
Edit: Maybe they were zombie-vampires.

Re: Last movies you saw
I watched Eraserhead last night. Well, that was something. Not much more to be said about that. I feel like the end is a pretty good case for veganism because that thing kind of looks like a chicken.

Re: Last movies you saw
Shi mian mai fu (House of Flying Daggers). 7/10.
What can I say? I didn't like the story too much. Not enough action. The flying daggers were cool to see, but the unrealism of them spoiled most of it for me. The pretty pictures weren't as good an as many as in Hero (which I give a 9/10).
Edit: Firefly is great, I hope you like it.

Barton Fink
Oozing (literally) with symbolism. Almost wish I was still in college so I could write a paper on it for a film class.
Not sure if these count but I saw two Jimmy Carr DVDs, In Concert and Comedian. Hilarious.

I'm on a roll?
The Breakfast Club. 8/10.
The writer/director apparently died? John Hughes (family of yours Germy?). Some guy was talking about this movie so I had to see it as well. Pretty good, the redhead girl was cute!

Re: Last movies you saw
The Cable Guy.
I haven't seen this movie since I was in like 4th or 5th grade...the movie was hated by Jim Carey fans and critics alike, and I can see why. I thought it was pretty good though. It was pretty dark. Maybe a dark comedy? I think critics would appreciate The Cable Guy A LOT more now that Jim Carey has exploited his goofball comedy routine to a point of annoyance.
Cable Guy = Good Movie, nowhere near the level of Eternal Sunshine though.

Re: Last movies you saw
Buffalo Soldiers (2001) Alright. US soldiers, 1989, Germany. I wouldn't rush out to see this. Probably way different than actual military life.
Angels & demons I couldn't pay attention to the whole thing. Tom Hanks acting was, in some parts, laughable. It felt like he was warm-up acting for his character in many of the scenes. blah lonnngggg n boring
The Human Condition(Ningen No Joken 1) First film of a trilogy from the 60's. First one was made in '59. Anti War epic. Each movie is over 3 hours. loong but engaging. Just be in the mood for a hardcore war statement. Not overly graphic(60's) but it deals with the comfort women and people's duty conflicting with conscience. director Masaki Kobayashi,, same guy who did Harakiri and Samurai Rebellion. Harakiri imo is a must see.

Re: Last movies you saw
Monsieur Verdoux (1947) I love this film. Not perfect but very funny. I'm not entirely sure what Chaplin was trying to say but it got him in trouble over time. I'd recommend if you like CC. Kinda like Ladykillers.
The Thin Red Line (1998) Good war movie. Not so hollywood paced like SPR. I liked it. Nick Nolte freaking out at a captain was good.

Re: Last movies you saw
Delicatessen. 7/10 or maybe a 8/10. French movie about an apocalyptic world where a town has resolved to cannibalism. Next up is the new kid on the block, but then the butchers daughter falls in love with him...
By the same director as Amélie, it has the same atmosphere and humor.

Re: Last movies you saw
Taken (2008). 7/10.
Good story, good acting... just not a very happy theme. Also a bit too violent for my taste.
Edit: reminded me a lot of The Bourne Trilogy, which is good.

Re: Last movies you saw
The Bank Job
I was bound to like it since Jason Statham is one of my favorite actors...he's just an entertaining guy. His role in The Bank Job reminded me of his role in Snatch...he had a proper accent and the whole movie was dripping with GORGEOUS cinematography. The movie really felt like it took place in the 1970s.
The Bank Job was a movie I kind of ignored when it came out, and it went fairly unnoticed but it was just a great overall film. The plot is that Statham is given details on a bank heist, so they rob the bank...and by doing so they get MI5 or MI6, the police, and the mob all chasing after them. The movie is paced fairly slow, and there isn't a ton of big explosions. So if you're the Transformers 2 type of moron who needs your action in excess, don't watch The Bank Job.
It was based on a true story too...and the movie really went after all the scandals. Very good film.

Re: Last movies you saw
Plan 9 From Outer Space (with live Rifftrax from the MST3K guys).
So I saw this at the movie theater tonight at it was great. It was a much bigger crowd than I expected, but I guess for a one night thing you can attract a bigger audience.
Anyway, I had never seen the film before and needless to say, it was horrible as many MST3k riffable movies are. The riffs were spot on and I had a lot of fun. Wish I had gotten to see them actually live in Philly, but it was too expensive..

Re: Last movies you saw
The Great Dictator. 7/10.
The middle is a bit slow, but some parts are hilarious. Chaplin doesn't speak real German, but his pronounciation/sound is great.
Ending speech is nice, too bad it didn't stop the war.
