Re: Last movies you saw
Blood Simple
A dark comedy film noir. This film is great and shows a lot of early Coens potential. There's a lot of great cinematography and the cast is top-notch as usual for a Coens film. Surprisingly, there is a decent amount of horror type of shots. I'm not sure if those where intentional or just indicative of early film experience.
Raising Arizona
This is a weird film from the Coen's works that is maybe borderline dark comedy and theatrical circus. It still has some really fun camera work including the first-person motorcycle camera. A fun, quirky film in which Nick Cage manages to not annoy the viewer.

Sherlock Holmes
Quite enjoyed. Though my only prior Holmes experience was Young Sherlock Holmes (which scared the bejeezus out of me as a wee lad), Wishbone, and Neil Gaimon's Lovecraftization of A Study in Scarlet, A Study in Emerald. Methinks shall be picking up some of the books at my local libraritorium.

Re: Last movies you saw
I read The Hound of the Baskervilles. Pretty good, suspenseful book. But don't be fooled by the action that the Sherlock Holmes movie has.
Being John Malkovich
That was... weird.

Suspiria
Italian Horror movie that I was recommended to watch via Netflix. Pretty good. The acting wasn't great, but some of the death scenes were pretty well done. It was the last film made in Technicolor so it has a very strange look to it. The soundtrack is creepy and bizarre as well.
Apparently they are plotting a remake starring Natalie Portman. Not sure how that will go.

Finally watched this. Not sure why it took me so long because I have trust it Rian Johnson, but this is an incredible film. Maybe a lot of my enjoyment of it has to deal with the fact that I have a brother that I'm good friends with, but either way it was cleverly shot and produced...Just a fun and unpredictable movie.

The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus:
I really enjoyed this movie. I like the fact it was entirely different from anything I've seen. But not only that but there isn't really anything magic about Dr. Parnassus' Imaginarium. It's just a door given to him by the devil to see who can get more souls. I liked that. While he was some legitimate magic prophet at some point, now he's a desperate old man who's getting on by getting souls for Tom Waits.
I think it's definitely a solid rental.

Re: Last movies you saw
Blindness 4/10.
What a horrible attempt at a movie. Even though it featured some great actors, they didn't act. The script must have been very low budget and the director (of City of God and The Constant Gardner, 2 good movies) must have been asleep most of the time.
It's really a shame, because the concept for the movie is really great. When a infectious disease causes people to go blind, the infected are put together in an abandoned hospital. It's really interesting to see what the loss of sight does to people (walk around naked, forget about races...).
The situation becomes critical when violent power relations start to emerge.
Now the interesting thing is: there is 1 woman there who hasn't gone blind.
This would make for a great movie, and the trailer gave the illusion it was.
But alas. The dialogs were so painful, there were major loopholes that could have been easily avoided. Bah, I'm ashamed I've seen this movie.

Re: Last movies you saw
Watched a couple Netflix horror recommendations over the weekend.
First was Eyes Without a Face, a French film from the early 60's. It was pretty good. Certainly creepy and at points downright brutal. Slow-paced and psychological. The general plot is kind of thin, but I liked it.
Next was Onibaba (or The Devil Woman), a Japanese film from the early 60's as well. This was pretty awesome. It was kind of like a more psychotic and intense drawn out Twilight Zone episode, which is great. Interesting take on morality in the characters or a lack thereof.
Also, if watching topless Japanese women sleeping/snoring wasn't a fetish for me before, it certainly is now. It's hypnotizing.

Ondine - My sister had this one. It was ok for a love story.
7th Voyage of Sinbad - Remember that crazy stopmotion!! Adventure. I liked The Golden Voyage of Sinbad more though. Going to watch Eye of the Tiger next.

Re: Last movies you saw
I saw Shutter Island. I suppose the fact that I knew there was a twist ruined it for me, because I spent most of the movie trying to figure out what the twist was and if my guess was right (it was). Still, a well done movie and very entertaining. Scorcese has become the master of formalist cinema, taking up the gauntlet from Kubrick.
For a great example of this, watch The Aviator. My favorite Scorcese film.

Re: Last movies you saw
The Crazies:
-I was expecting something entirely different from this movie. I enjoyed the direction they took it in, and how they portrayed it. I'd advise a solid rent.
Hot Tub Time Machine:
-This movie had some pretty hilarious moments mixed with a lot of "enh" and a little bit of bromance inbetween.
The Box:
-It's a fun movie to watch if you're not one of those people who likes answers. Even then, it's not that bad. It's made by [I think] the same guy who made Donnie Darko, so that says a lot about it right there, in a way.

Re: Last movies you saw
The A-Team
Wasn't as action packed as I expected. And I don't think ever seen every ep of the show, but do they ever explain the crime? Always thought not knowing was cooler.
The Losers
Pretty similar set-up to the A-Team but most of the characters tend to have more fun with it, the action was okay, but felt for a comic book movie could have pushed it more.
Cars-
Finally saw the last Pixar movie, and it was okay.I think the problem lies in the fact that Lightning McQueen isn't a likable character, and I know he grows and develops over the course of the movie, but I feel like most Pixar movies give you characters to like and then throw obstacles in their way for you to feel sorry for em.
