Killers

A fun movie with a rather weak ending that left a sour taste in my mouth. Its a less-charming and fun Mr and Mrs. Smith and the leads don't have the energy/charisma.

Who is Harry Nilsson (And Why is Everybody Talking About Him?)

Pretty good documentary about one of my favorite music artists of all time. Lots of great footage and information I didn't know about. Fun stuff about that general late 60's early 70's music scene if you're into that. Interviews from Robin Williams, Terry Gilliam, Brain Wilson, Randy Newman, Eric Idle, and many others. Streaming on Netflix.

The Town

It was a fine movie, nothing too special about it. Though reminds me how much I dislike the Boston accent.

Winter's Bone

Very good. No surprise that Jennifer Lawrence is getting a lot of attention for it...she's great in it. Interesting story as well.

The Brood

Pretty good early Cronenberg horror/psychology movie. Gets a little bit ridiculous, but the horror scenes are generally well done and scary. A bit dialogue heavy, but still good

I love you, Phillip Morris

It stars Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor.
It's (a true story) about a con artist (Carrey) who gets thrown in prison, and falls in love with an inmate (McGregor). The basis of the movie is that Carrey is constantly breaking out of jail in various ways to be reunited with Mcgregor.

This is a movie I suggest everyone to watch. It's funny, and entertaining. Plus it's worth watching just to see the shit this guy did to get out of prison.

I enjoyed it, though the breaking out really only deals with like the last 30 minutes or so of the movie.

I do like how he went from normal man to flaming in no time flat.

Anyhow, started doing mini-reviews on the site so here are two of the last movies I saw

The Other Guys

A funny cop spoof with some incredibly hilarious moments and a few incredibly miss moments. Mark Wahlberg is hilarious, and this movie plus Date Night has me convinced he should do more comedy. Will Ferrell steals the movie with the hot wife gag. I'd say rent it.

The A Team

Stupid. Things explode. Bradley Cooper. Liam Neeson who may be the best worst action actor since Steven Seagal. This was fluff at its best, a "popcorn flick." As far as stupid popcorn flicks go, this one was okay in my book. Also a renter.

Easy A

This movie was awesome. Emma Stone is so hot. Let's take a moment and drool.....

The movie is going for the quirk-appeal of Juno and it totally works. I laughed at this cute, pro-sex movie. It was a nice change of pace for a comedy. And Emma Stone as a strong female role was nice to see, we need more chicks in comedy.

The Town (rewatch)

I feel like a re-watch reveals the "averageness" of this film. The second action sequence is intense and stellar and will have you on the edge of your seat. The cinematography is gripping and awesome too. But when I think hard about it, I think that Gone Baby Gone might be the better film.

Salt

The Bourne Identity with Angelina Jolie. This is NOT essential viewing, and this falls into the mediocre action movie category. With no especially memorable action sequences this movie leaves a lot to be desired.

The Golden Compass. 6/10. Bad story telling.
Flags of our Fathers. 6/10. Pretty boring.

Just saw True Grit. It was good, but I wasnt exactly blown away. Maybe I was too hyped up for it, I dont know. I liked No Country for Old Men a lot more.

I don't even think you can compare the two movies.

My understanding is that the Coen Brother's take on True Grit was more in tune with the novel whereas the original changed things up a bit. I cannot say since I have not read the novel. I can say I have seen the original movie and I think Hailee Steinfeld defined the role as Mattie Ross.

Inception: Perhaps the most brilliantly conceived movie so far this century, and one of the top ten "smartest" movies ever made.
