Happy Birthday to the Xbox
With the release of Halo CE today, we officially mark the 10th anniversary of the release of the original Xbox.
And Microsoft has sure come a long way in the past decade, what are your thoughts on the original console? Favorite game? Xbox Live? Did you own one?

Re: Happy Birthday to the Xbox
The S controller was the best. The Panzer Dragoon Orta game was really nice as was a couple of other sega games for the system. It was a nice system all along and delivered what it promised. I liked mine.

Re: Happy Birthday to the Xbox
Interesting article on the XBox's impact on gaming. Aside from motion controls, MS basically pushed the industry forward over the last decade.

Well, it would help if you linked to the article?
But, I would say the industry has seen growth in many non-Xbox sectors, mostly in the social game scene. Facebook/smart phones.

Re: Happy Birthday to the Xbox
I would counter that the entire idea of modern "social" gaming was pioneered by XBox Live. The showed that it was a viable concept on a mass market scale. The first point mentioned in the article is how the XBox created the idea of a console community, which predates what we would define as modern social gaming, IMO.
Is there anything you would like to give MS and the XBox credit for, or would you like to continue to reinforce commonly held beliefs about your personal biases?

Yeah at this point I'm just gonna stop having discussions with you.
You're entire strategy these days is.. to just say can't have a discussion because of your perceived bias on my taste.. then I'm not gonna waste my time.

Can't we all just get along?
Side note: anyone else in the new dashboard preview program? I just realized I was invited about two weeks ago, haha.

Haven't you figured out that I do this only because you get so worked up about it? But seriously, I'm curious what your thoughts are about the XBox's legacy.

Re: Happy Birthday to the Xbox
The original Xbox was fantastic. I honestly didn't care for it at all at first because I couldn't stand the controller, and the system by itself didn't offer too much over DC, PS2, and GameCube. And then time passed, a better controller came out, and I started to play Halo and was impressed by the Dolby Digital encoding. Then as time passed the HD factor started to be more noticeable, and then Live came out, and the other consoles might as well have not existed.
I was running a GameCube site when Xbox came out, and was quite young, so I really wanted to hate it. But by the time that generation had ended, Microsoft completely won me over. It's the reason why this is the first generation I have felt no interest in owning all the consoles, I'm just way too happy with what Xbox provides, and it all started with the Live beta. Hell, most of my friends list is still the people I played MotoGP with in the Live beta.
Xbox really also needs to be given a lot of credit from the development side. Fantastic system.

I just received an e-mail saying that I was invited some time ago and asking why I haven't updated yet. I never received an invitation, though, and the Microsoft Connect website doesn't have anything pertinent in it whether I'm signed it or not. There's no way to register my specific console or anything.
Anyway, I just figured someone accidentally hit "send to all" when shooting out the e-mail or something.

I got that email too and am now in the program. I also never received any communication before that email. Very bizarre.
Does the website not change when you log in? Mine did. You have to follow a few steps and you're in the program the next day more-or-less.
