Battle of the Consoles
Which brand had the strongest showing in their Pre-E3 Press Conferences?
I'm going to have to go with Sony's conference. It showed the stunning performance of Cell and the graphical push of the PS3.
Nintendo's was so so, and of course.. Microsoft already had their little "Killer" showing on MTV.

I'm watching the other conferences now. Sony really needs to cut down on the techno babble.

Re: Battle of the Consoles
I thought Nintendo's was very impressive simply because they were able to steal the show with current generation products. Need I even mention the amount and length of applause that Legend of Zelda Cubed received?

None were really all that spectacular. I give them all a 5/10.

Re: Battle of the Consoles
I think the techno babble was good for Sony. For geeks and nerds around everywhere who ARE gamers, they see the lingo and understand it and tell all their non-nerd friends... as much as they have....... that the techno babble spit out by Sony actually means that the Cell processor is awesome in it's own right...

Re: Battle of the Consoles
To be honest, I would say Nintendo.
Because though they may not have the most impressive games.
The games they showed that are interesting, I would most likely play at the end of this year.. and hey.. I ain't waiting for the PS3 games next year as good as they look.. they will be around next year.
Xbox 360 doesn't really impress me...
Year of the Mario! Ok every year is year of the Mario, but new platformer and MArio and Luigi 2

Re: Battle of the Consoles
If I had to go for one, I'd go for Nintendo. No huge surprises, but the downloadable games on Revolution puts them over the top for the win. That's my vote.

Re: Battle of the Consoles
Microsoft had the best conference. They know how to make a presentation and they made a good case for Xbox Live.
Nintendo's was underwhelming as expectations ran high. Electroplankton is a cool idea but no one really cares about it. The absence of Mario 128 or any Revolution tech demos left people wanting. Most damaging was the stilted dialogue and forced humor from all the presenters. Even Reggie appeared to be trying to hard. His enounciation was unneccesarily strong and he appeared tense. He's at his best when he's relaxed and having fun.
Sony's conference was way too long and hopelessly bogged down with technical details most gamers don't understand and don't really care about. I felt like I was at a boring computer science lecture. The pace picked up considerably when they presented their mind-blowing demos of real time PS3 games, but I'm looking at the conference as a whole.
Both Nintendo and Sony really need to think twice before letting the Japs give speeches. Their accents are too difficult to understand and distract from the message. Nothing puts you to sleep faster than a technical speech where you can only understand every other word. And the words you do understand you don't necessarily know what they mean.
PS3 appeared in many ways to be the superior product, but they did not present as well as Microsoft.

Re: Battle of the Consoles
Thats why its a press conference and not a gamers conference.

Re: Battle of the Consoles
LOL... aint that the truth...
I'm pretty sure, today at the Showroom of E3, they are just showing demos and footage and having the PS3 and Xbox 360 playable like they said they would...
Press Conference you can expect a little more talking... just to explain a few things... though it was a little long.
HEY!!! Don't dis the japs... they make these things possible! LOL... Anyway I can't think of anyone else who SHOULD unveil the PS3 but Ken Kutaragi... he is the godfather of Playstation.

I missed some of the best jokes because I couldn't understand the Japanese accents. No offense.
I'd say PS3, even though I didn't watch it in full lenght, just pieces.

I don't want to sound racist, but I do agree. Iwata's ramblings were overly long. I loved his "who's your daddy" joke about Reggie, but keep it simple. I realize that you run the company, and that's great. You should keep an eye on everything ang plan it all. But you should get someone who has a vocab of 500 words or more without a thick accent to present. Same goes for Sony's.
Microsoft's presenters defintely get the hype going, but I hate Allard with a passion. Why did he dress up like an angel of death from Dogma?
