Once again, my comment was to make a point. A "joke" is a matter of perspective. Maybe Europeans find it hilarious, but I'm sure my late grandfather wouldn't, considering he carried a scar from his time in Europe until the day he died. He never talked about it either, and would get eerily silent any time WW2 was brought up.
So sure, your joke is just fine. I guess it's ok to diminish those who died for you two days after the holiday that is meant to remember them in the states.
Excuse me if I don't find that joke funny, and Europeans who do should be ashamed of themselves.
