Thats a nice thought, but thats not how good business works...

But I thought Nintendo's first priority is making good, quality video games?

Clever marketing and a dedication to making good games, I don't see anything wrong here. Thanks for "clearing up the fog", so to speak.

Oh but of course, it's always good business to screw over your loyal fan base in order to increase profit revenue. Apparently Nintendo has abandoned the old phrase "pleasing the gamers comes before pleasing our pockets". This entire generation for Nintendo has contained constant screw overs for gamers. Take for instance the GCN/GBA connectivity, which is the biggest scam I've ever seen. In order for me to obtain 100% in most if not all my GCN games, I must purchase a gba, connection cables, and in most cases, a gba game. I don't give a crap what lame ass excuses anyone gives, like "well I already own all the stuff so it's alright". Horsesh*t.

Now we see even more crap surfacing, where I must purchase a console, or a game, or some other stupid thing in order for me to get this bonus disc. Is that the thanks I get for being a loyal fan and purchasing their system and games for over a year now? And once again, everyone who already plans to buy another GCN, or a game, or whatever else, seems to have no problem what-so-ever with Nintendo's doings, because it all works out perfectly for them. It's no wonder Nintendo gains such a significant profit, no matter what piss ass mistakes they make, there's always the fanboys waiting in line for their chance to praise them.

Let me tell you about what makes a good business plan. When you satisfy the user base, the people who enjoy and own a GCN, and continue to support the company by purchasing new games and accesaries, THAT is when you have done good business. By trying to gain a larger profit, at the expense of their current user base, that is bad business.

Just curious what game exactly forces you to have a GBA/GCn connection to get 100%?

As far as I know there is no game that forces you to use it to finish it, even Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles can be beat without it.

Maybe that's just me.

And I don't get some people, would you rther Nintendo charge 40 or 50 bucks for a disk that you can buy free with a system or get for free with a 20 dollar magazine subscription or by buying two other games?

I don't see how this is screwing over the "loyal" fans, but maybe that's just me.

When I say 100%, I am referring to completely finishing everything there is to do in the game, not just beating it.

And yes, I would rather Nintendo charged $40-$50 for the disc to be sold seperately, at least then I could get the disc without being forced to buy anything else.

It still sounds like one of the most stupid things I've ever heard. Paying when you can get it free.

Nintendo should let you 'buy' it with your collected stars from bought games. That way the 'loyal fans' get it for free.
I hope they do that in Europe!!

Yes, I too would rather pay $40-50 for a bonus disc rather than merely $20 for the disc and a subscription to a magazine. I am an avid subscriber to the "buy less stuff with more money" way of life. Helped me get into this cardboard box you see.

[/sarcasm]

Not to say I completely disagree with you, however. I would rather be able to buy the disc by itself, as well; I just think its kind of stupid to want to pay $40-50 for one item as opposed to $20 for the same item plus another.

I don't WANT to pay $40-50, my point was that I want to buy the disc, not the crappy magazine subscription, not a new console, not a game, or whatever other crap. Saying that it'd be worth $40-50 right off the bat is ridiculous of course, as there is no way it'd be worth that amount. Maybe $17.99 or something in that range.

I really have no problem at all with Nintendo trying to promote other poducts and adding a special free bonus with it. But the people who do not want to purchase these extra items are being forced to do so (ok, I know Nintendo isn't literally forcing people to buy it, but you know what I mean). And sure, it may only be a little $20 subscription. But you know what? I don't want any damn Nintendo Power subscription.

It's odd how Microsoft makes almost no profit at all from the Xbox, yet they continue to produce it, adding wave after wave of new features, more online support and additions, and other quality things such as attaining good third party developers to make great games for the system.

It is almost impossible to make a profit with a dedicated online network this gen.

PS2 and Xbox online network users: 1.5 million
PS2 and Xbox combined worldwide install base: 60 million

That's 2.5% of PS2 and Xbox owners going online with their consoles. Strange how a company not gaining profit from something would continue to support it.

And Nintendo, the company making the highest profit intake of the three companies, chooses to carrying on in ways which are more beneficial to them rather than their customers.

Companies want money, I agree. But companies also want to make their customers happy. A happy customer will continue to purchase their products and support them.

Microsoft has the money to just waste on anything and everything they want. They never cared in the first place that XBox was going to be no profit to them.

Sony has enough money alsoto just throw around. They are more electronics then they are gaming.

Nintendo is essentially gaming only, so they can't just throw money as they please. If they had a good hold in another area of a market, they probably would've had a better online this gen. rather then next gen...But considering that Nintendo isn't doing as great as they were a few years ago, they have to think what can profit first, then decide what they could spend money on without worry of having a substantial profit loss.

+Rep because you are right. We can even go back to the example of Nintendo selling Rare. Nintendo is all about the money. Microsoft and Sony believe that increasing the quality of their product at all costs is important and that it will mean success in the long run, Nintendo used to think this way, but now Nintendo cares about marketability first, and quality second. Maybe they don't want to end up like Sega; respected, but dead.

But then there's the fact that Nintendo Power is a crappy magazine, and in order to get the disc I'd have to put up with that crappy thing being in my mail box every month....
