Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
N5 needs to have a DVD player/burner, a built in hard drive, and a built in ethernet adapter(who uses dial up anymore anyways). It should be able to hold up to 5 disks, and have a remote, so u can change games without getting up. Wireless recievers should be built into the system, and the controllers should have built in recharchable lithium batterys. The graphics will be awsome, no dought. They should focus mainly on multiplayer games, because now days nobody plays by themself.
They should pick a "mature" color for the system, **** that purple. They need a good amount of launch titles, and to have games keep coming out after launch. I think good launch lineup would be, Mario, PilotWings, Too Human, a good shooter, a couple sports games, and some 3rd party developments.

I personally enjoy playing by myself and I know my mom prefers good single player games. Unfortunately there is so much focus on the multiplayer (which is awesome) that there just aren't many really good single players out. Personally, I think Nintendo needs to do a better job of getting games that have both options. Fun for both single player and multi player.

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
I think the next system should be a pure gaming console as is this one, I already have a DVD player and I don't want to pay extra money for Project Dolphin 2. Besides that, a real gamer doesn't base their console choice on whether or not it can play DVDs. I think the mini discs being used now are cool, I don't know if they have enough capacity to hold next generation's games though. I don't want to have 2 discs for every game though so unless they can design the same size discs with bigger capacity, I guess they'll just have to use some other type of disc. Backwards compatibility would certainly be nice, for those times when I feel like reliving the 'good 'ol days'. As for the GBA player option, I don't want it to be a standard feature because that's something else I don't need (or use very much) and it just raises the price again. I think they should sell it as an attachment just as it is this generation. Built in wireless receivers would be cool, I would like to see wireless controllers become standard. I wouldn't miss the rumble feature, personally, I like playing better without the rumble feature. If I feel the need for that stimulation, I'll put an adult toy in my pants while I'm playing. At launch time, they should have one of their major titles ready. I think if they had Mario Sunshine, Windwaker, or Metroid Prime ready at launch with the Gamecube, they would've won more customers. I know Super Smash Bros. Melee was released soon after launch but that isn't as classic as other titles like Mario, Zelda, etc. As for multiplayer, it would be cool if online playability was definite, but also keep their offline multiplayer alive. I think LAN should be abandoned because bringing two TVs togther into the same room is pretty unfeasible. I have yet to play a LAN game and I don't think I will because neither my friends nor I have a way to set it up at any of our houses. I guess that's pretty much it. One of my unrealistic hopes for next generation is for Nintendo to create a virtual reality game where you wear a headset and have special gloves you put on so that you become totally immersed in the game.

Using thoughts from here and a few new ones of my own, ive compiled what I believe to be an accurate rendering of what the N5 could look like. Ive highlighted all the key features for you.

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
I would like to reiterate my position on the wireless controller. If they could get the rumble feature on it I am completely for it. However, there are just certain games that are so much better with it. My support for this is Zelda... I preferred N64 games with the rumble pack and I would not play Wind Waker with out it.

I agree... I play by myself most of the time because when me and my friends get together, we rarely play video games...
Although at a birthday party the other day we had a big fun 8 player Mario Kart LAN set up... It was swit...
As for N5... Ehhh *shrug*... I don't think it needs a DVD BURNER... a DVD player maybe... but maybe not... NGC backwards compatibility would be nice... blah blah blah not really any different than what most people have been saying...
I mean, I really don't think a "Pure gaming" console is gonna cut it... Nintendo fans might be all "Yaaay go Nintendo pure gaming", but I don't think they'll be as happy when the sales slump and game development drops off...
Not that it necesarily will if they do that...

Well, what else do people want besides a DVD player? Because like someone already mentioned, DVDs and DVD players are much more common now then they used to be and you can get one for under $50 now. So I don't think that's going to grab any extra buyers.
And having a DVD burner on a gaming console is just stupid. What would you burn?

it should have a built in death ray in case someone wins and rubs it in your face. The death ray will detect the excessive gloating and kill them,

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
If the other companies choose to include other things and exploit/mass market those other features besides the fact that their console is meant to PLAY GAMES, then I feel shame for any company who mass markets the secondary features besides the fact that it plays games. It's almost the way Americans purchase things. We don't care about the main point of a product, we want to know/have the extra things that come with the product. Me personally, I just want a game console that plays games. Don't try to sell me on the fact it can do 50 other things when all I want it to really do is play my damn games, not cook my dinner, walk the dog, play my porno, etc....
But back on topic. Everyone continue posting your ideas

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
I personally like the idea of wireless being the standard, as long as the controllers work from 30 feet or so and have long battery life. The console should have ONE small port on the side for recharging your controllers, and each controller will have a port on it to plug other controllers into to charge them as well, enableing you to charge multiple controllers at once, creating a chain effect of sorts. I think that would work. No more ugly controller ports.

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
Well, here's my listing of what N5/GameCube 2/Project Reality 2 should be:
Bluetooth Wireless wavebirds standard. This deletes the need for controller ports, but they should also be there to support GCN 1 wavebirds and gamepads. Up to 8 Wavebird 2's can be used on one GCN via bluetooth.
8cm Blue Ray or OptiRon DVD technology. Screw going to 12cm discs like Sony and MS. 8cm works for shorter loads, and with Blue Ray and OptiRon 20-1000GB capacity, there will NEVER be a need for two disc games. Game data can also be rewritten to the disc optionally instead of internal SRAM or portable SD memory.
Onboard SRAM directly in the hardware instead of an HD. Harddrives crash, and can become corrupt. SRAM can too, but usually at the lifespan of the entire console. Not to mention it's loads faster than what any HD could ever hope of transferring per nanosecond. The only downfall to this is SRAM is damn-near $1000 more expensive, so 1-T SRAM is probably more logical, with SD cards as backup.
Default bluetooth Wavebird configuration. Four analog triggers like PS2, with the same digital overrides (digital "clicks") seen in the Wavebird 1 pad. N64-sized D-pad, clickable analog sticks, Select button, and an analog toggle switch should exist on both the gamepad itself as well as on the console for override purposes. Varying GCN2 pads should also exist, like Wavebirds for fighting purists that resemble SNES controllers. Sony will be pissed.
DVD playback tray. Full-size 12cm/8cm tray supports both GCN BlueRay/OptiRon discs as well as future 12cm DVD-9 movie content, with upgradeable Divx and mp3 codecs (something Xbox and PS2 are currently missing). Support for rewritable/writable mediums, as well as multi-mode discs (game/music/movie). Built-in IR/bluetooth for optional remote.
Hyper-Z shaders implemented in Flipper 2 ISA/GPU. Allowing full-function, programmable GPU ops for automatic graphical upgrades of older GCN games, as well as unparalleled achievement in REALTIME RAYTRACING (though buffered). Flipper 2's estimated internal bandwidth should be no less than 100GB/sec, with texture read bandwidth at over 1TB/sec. Flipper 2 will boast 42 simultaneous texture layers, 32 infinite hardware lights, and an average of 60 million polygons per second in realworld applications.
Next-Gen Gameboy also Bluetooth Wireless with GCN2. Considering Nintendo's current philosophy, this goes without saying. Up to 8 GBA2's can link up wirelessly to GCN2 as controllers or extra feature devices. In a smaller role, GBA2's and GCN2's can also communicate with newer iPod's via bluetooth, and custom soundtracks can be made directly from your collection in the touch of a button, or game soundtracks can be taken with you on the road.
Full 802.11e Wi-Fi support for online gaming. No longer will you need a wireless bridge or multiple hubs to link Nintendo to your network- it will see and auto configure on first boot.
Built-in 1080p and Plasma Deflicker HDTV options. This massive frame buffer will no-doubt handle any resolution thrown at it for years to come.
Built-in Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DD 5.1, DD 7.1, and THX Digital 9.1 Surround for massive gaming experiences. Recievers are auto-detected by games, and set for optimal aural surroundscape. Official optical DTS connectors derived from Apple's G5 HDTV ports.
Killer Apps. Factor 5 creates a Killer Instinct-killer and PilotWings, along with the expected Rogue Squadron sequel, Silicon Knights finally releases Too Human and Eternal Darkness II, Valve updates Half-Life 2 for GCN2, Nspace brings Geist 2, Metroid Genesis and Raven Blade finally arrive from Retro, while Castlevania 6 (true sequel to the SNES game) and Resident Evil 5 debut for launch. Nintendo EAD also brings Super Mario World 3, The Legend of Zelda: Dragon Scale, Smash Bros 3, and two new titles- Massacre (a bloody RPG in the vein of Golden Sun), and Retrograde (a mixture of GTA and Legacy of Kain substance).
And with those expectations, there's no way Nintendo (or anyone else for that matter) can meet them. I'll still be looking forward to it, though...
