I personally don't mind the other genre's. Country, rock, pop (if its not demeaning and distasteful), oldies, etc..I'm perfectly fine with but the second you turn on Rap music (of current times), it just sickens me. And I know there are people who listen to Rap, etc..and they are the people I dislike. Thats my opinion

Yeah, I dislike rap music, and most of the people I dislike, like rap music. I don't dislike them because of the music, it's how they act. As someone earlier said(sorry can't remeber who) all these 12 year olds talking like there black and about how cool they are because they have a hat that has red, blue, and white on it and they wear it sideways.

Rap is not music.

mu·sic

The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre.

Rap is noise.

noise

A disturbance, especially a random and persistent disturbance, that obscures or reduces the clarity of a signal.

Good recent pop artists: Of Montreal, The Olivia Tremor Control, The High Llamas, Neutral Milk Hotel, Rilo Kiley, Beulah, Koufax, Quasi, The Busy Signals, Mirah, The Shins, etc.

I agree that a lot of the more mainstream pop isn't great, but better stuff exists.

pop
adj.

1. Of or for the general public; popular or popularized: pop culture; pop psychology.
2. Of, relating to, or specializing in popular music: a pop singer.
3. Of or suggestive of pop art: a pop style.

n.

1. Popular music.
2. Pop art.

Pop is any kind of music that is popular. I've never heard of most of the bands you listed, how can they be "pop"? Or do you just have the definition confused? I thought "pop" music was constantly changing depending on who and what was popular. I love Neutral Milk Hotel...but I didnt think they were very "pop"ie at all.

And I strongely dislike the Hip Hop culture, and I strongely dislike the music that has spawned from it, and I strongely dislike rap. And I have to agree with the definition that Bond posted.

Most hip hop artists and rap artists dont even make their own music. True to the glory days of the turn tables, they steal sounds from other bands, put it in their music, then lay their lyrics over top of it. Can you be considered a musician if you do that? I happen to think not.

And I love Linkin Park too...but I would consider them "pop" because they are popular. You cant say you hate all "pop" music, because that is a very very broad over generalization. But what I think Crono meant by "pop" were things like boy bands and all those "pop princess's", which, I must say, they all suck.

I dont like Hip hop. I dont like rap. Does that make it a bad style of "music"? No.

I disrespect most hip hop and rap. Does that make it a bad style of "music"? Yes. There are very few hip hop and rap artists that I have respect for. Those are the ones rapping about something intelligent instead of gang bangs and killing people, being a thug, etc.

[edit] And if I could make a difference...I think I would make myself immortal...then I would have all the time in the world to make as many differences as I wanted.

I used to hate rap too. But sometimes you just have to bob your head to a good beat. I'm a bassist, so naturally I'm drawn into good rythym. Rap has that. It's not random. It's machine-gun precise and can hit you in your chest if it's done right.

Some changes I would make.

Expose crooked politics
Create a truthful non-biased media
Exile the corrput corporations
Rid social classes
Create an atmosphere around the earth to absorb nuclear energy
Exile fundementalist.

Rap is art too. It was the art of people living in the ghetto's who had an unfair life, or maybe were just venting. Sometimes they rap about the good times and parties they have had. The same with rock, the media has violated the genre. They've seen which formula's work among the sheep that we call the youth. It is there fault that rap has turned into noise pollution along with rock these days. I'm not saying all mainstream stuff is bad, but as you see in these days..the majority is.

I think living forever would be awesome.

People say " what about all the deaths" and stuff.

Well, we see alot of deaths now, as it is. You move on from some, and some you dont.

And about the rap thing, all it is is glorified poetry spoken by black people wearing clothes 4 sizes too big while they stomp around like dinosaurs.

Oh, I can do this too

rap music

n : genre of African-American music of the 1980s and 1990s in which rhyming lyrics are chanted to a musical accompaniment; several forms of rap have emerged [syn: rap, hip-hop]

Rap

A form of popular music developed especially in African-American urban communities and characterized by spoken or chanted rhyming lyrics with a syncopated, repetitive rhythmic accompaniment.

Rhythm And Poetry.

Rhythm

The pattern or flow of sound created by the arrangement of stressed and unstressed syllables in accentual verse or of long and short syllables in quantitative verse.

Flow

To exhibit a smooth or graceful continuity

Verse

The art or work of a poet

Song

A lyric poem or ballad.

Oh and this one is for some of you that have a never changing opinion

ignorance

n : the lack of knowledge or education

The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed.

Seriously, you guy's are killing your whole arguement here by saying rap aint music. It is. Period.

You admit that you don't know anything about rap when you say the majority of is Gang ****. Mainstream in every genre doesnt represent the real music being created on the underground, at all. It's the same arguement over and over and is the equivilant of me saying that Avril represents the true punk rock genre. You people talking about rap, is like a 13 year old who saw the video for Black Hole Sun talking about Classic Rock. You just don't know what you're talking about.

and like Gamemaster said, it's the kids and adults' fault that some people act like that. I don't know if the people in Iowa and Canada are real thugs that are direspectful to the Hip-Hop Culture, but here in LA it's not like that. If you're fake, you get hassled for it and it's quite obvious. Oh, and if someone does where the Fubu baggy pants, the retro Bullets jersey with a matching Hat and the SPrewell shoes, fell free to knock him out if he's being an ass, but not just because of what he wears and listens too. The Hip-Hop culture has changed, but it's not bad. It's just being abused. I hope that Outkast use their next album to bring it back now that they have lots of the Pop fans on their johns.

Listen to "I Used To Love H.E.R." by common. The Girl is a representation of Hip-Hop and if you want a harder more explicit version of this song listen to "Ballad Of Worms" by Cage.

Who are you talking about?
Can you please rephrase that with fewer ideas, or different thoughts?

But rap is mostly "gang sh*t" Its all about being hardcore, and stuff like that.

It seems to me, that as soon as a rap song has something important to say, its called "hip-hop".

But i do like some "rap" Like Kanye West, Outkast, and i like anything from the late 80's and early 90's, back when the majority of rap was about political issues, not killing people and stealin cars and stuff.
