Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Peyton Manning is owning the entire NFL right now.
Oh, and Edgerrin James would have broken the single game rushing record if they didnt sit him the entire 4th quarter for some extra rest for the Turkey Day game on Thursday...

Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Eagles go to 10-1 with an easy win over the Giants and clinch the NFC East. First team to clinch by the 11th game since 1997. Next to clinch: Bye and Home-field advantage.

Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Stu, Bond.
Both of you guys need to slow your proverbial rolls.
1) Bond: If you'd really take Favre over Manning over the course of a season, you're nuts.
2) Stu: If you'd really take Manning over Favre for one game, you're nuts.
3) If Marino were in the league now, playing behind that Colts Offensive line, with those Colts receivers, with edge, with these patty-cake pass interference/illegal contact rules, with that colts D putting him back out on the field the first 8 games of the season, he'd throw 70 TDs too. Manning's season has been amazing, and he'll probably win me my Fantasy league. He'll rewrite the record books, but unless Manning gets to 65-70 TDs and 5000 (which he just might) it's not a better year than Marino's.
(I'll give manning 3 more TDs and an extra 250 yards because he sat out the 4th vs Detroit and my pitiful Bears)
I can't wait until December 19th. Colts Vs Ravens on Sunday Night Football, and then Janauary 2nd Colts @ Broncos. If manning can beat Baltimore, and then go TO denver, where it's going to be about 60 below zero and snowy on Jan 2nd, the Colts will win it all this year. If not, it might be another depressing January for you Stu.

Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
All I know is I'm going to see the greatest QB currently in the NFL tonight make his 200th straight start. Marino and Montana are better overall than Favre though, I'll give you that.

Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Aint Manning's fault he's tearing it up with his supporting cast. You really cant do any better than what Manning is doing right now...he's making the absolute BEST of a great situation. The Colts O-Line doesnt have a single career pro bowl appearance, and sported 3 rookies (highest drafted was 5th round) against the Lions, and he didnt miss a beat. When the O-Line rotates and the QB isnt affected, logic says the QB's doing something right.
Also, question for Bond and Stoney:
How many games have you watched Manning play this year?
*edit*
and I suppose Favre's supporting cast is THAT MUCH worse?
*best O-Line in football*
*ahman green, who most would argue is better than edge (not me, I think Edge is a top 3 back)*
*walker/driver, who are only a couple steps behind harrison/wayne*
*the best array of backs in the NFL (green, davenport, henderson, fisher, luchey)
I would agree that Manning's IS better, but Favre isnt doing half as good as Peyton this year.

Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
Remember, Favre is old and on the way out. You really can't blaim him for not performing up to his old standard.

That's fine. Favre is a very good QB TODAY...he WAS the best, along with Elway, back in the 95-98 yers.
Favre circa 1997 > Peyton Manning? I would agree, until Manning wins a Superbowl.
But Favre circa 2004 > Peyton Manning? definately not

Vs NE
Vs GB
Vs Oak
Vs KC
Vs Min
Vs Chi
Vs Det
I watched at least half of all of those games except the KC game where I only got to see the last 5 minutes during some CBS Extended coverage.
Damn, Indy has been on a lot this year.

Re: The NFL thread 2004-2005
with the exception of NE, you saw him against cream puff defenses. Although shredding those apart, he was also amazing against teams like Jacksonville (twice) and Tennessee (when their defense was....alive?) who are potent defenses.
what makes you think Favre's the better QB?

Still though, one game, you've got to take #4.
