Anytime soon? No, there will be fighting for a while. Poeple don't just change their culture and way of life at the drop of a hat. It takes a long time. It is starting to happen, though, and it can only mean good things.

Re: Giving George W. Bush His Due on Democracy
Well considering how much the violence has diminished already, I'd say that in 5+ years you'll see a dramatic decrease. Now there are still some very destructive attacks taking place, but they number of occurances of attacks have dimished greatly already, and Iraqi forces are finally starting to police their own country without having their hands held by US forces.
This is all pretty well known through mainstream news, I'm not seeing how you think that there won't be a further decrease in 5+ years.

Re: Giving George W. Bush His Due on Democracy
I didn't say a decrease in the violence i said ENDING to the violence, I know there has been decreases, but no matter what you say there will be some total fanatics ready to blow up people by a suicide bombing if they get the chance.
America wont be able to stop all the violence, They will continue to work underground and fight. Now their affectivness may and probably will be diminished, but the intention will still be there.
In the wars that have insergency problems, they were never able to fully get rid of the problem, the biggest example being Vietnam. The VC in conjunction with the NVA were able to cause major damage ( Khe Sahn on two occasions, and Tet offensive being the biggest two i can think of). Granted the Americans were there for a long time ( 59 - 73) and the South Vietnamese weren't much of a help. In the first months of the conflict America was able to inflict 10 to 1 odds on the VC these operations included: Starlite, Cedar Falls, etc. But towards the end the VC reinforced by the NVA were able to turn the tide of the war.
Since the Iraqi insergents don't have the help of another military power, like the VC did I don't expect them to make any decisive moves, But they will continue to attack none the less.

Ah, I think I understand you better now. I thought you were saying that it was going to keep going strong for the next 5+ years.
I actually agree with you then. Until the whole region changes, there will still be terrorism and violence, probably on the scale that the IRA was not so long ago.

Re: Giving George W. Bush His Due on Democracy
I wish people would attempt to not nessesarily agree with everything Bush has done, because the guy in the article obviously doesn't agree with everything Bush has done. I just wish that people would accept that he is our president and he has made some tough decisions and has made some mistakes, but he is getting something done instead of simply perpetuating the same problems and trying to ignore them.
Nobody looks at what a positive impact is being made in Iraq. They only look at everything possible to scrutinize about. Why doesn't anyone who replied to this post admit that, while they still disagree with the war, they realize things are going better? Why can't most people who are against Bush at least acknowledge that things are at the very least turning around for the better in the Middle East? I have already said that I support the war, but I can admit that I don't support everything Bush does. Some people don't have any ability to think for themselves and instead will be totally manipulated by everything their parents/ the media/ their friends, think.

Re: Giving George W. Bush His Due on Democracy
I did say that there are positives.
I just don't believe that they justify the bad things. Yeah, things in Iraq aren't super ****ty. They're just ****ty now. Excuse me for not springing an errection over it.
The second part of your post is, well, retarded. You say that nobody looks at the positive aspects of the war, even though Bush just won the majority vote. There are definate political sides in the media, and even though both thrive off of the violence and negativity surrounding the war in Iraq, there's a spin in both directions.
Your generalization of everyone who disagrees with Bush as collectively ignoring the advancements in the middle east can't be taken as anything but ignorance. Where are you taking this from?
