Re: Where do you play your PSP?
No no no, the reason the PSP hasn't sold out is because Sony shipped a surplus amount to the NA therefore delaying the EURO launch.
Sony had originally intended 500,000 units to NA. It sold that much in the first 2 days, and according to numbers is already reaching close to 750,000.
If Sony had gone with their original launch plan, PSP's would be sold out everywhere, however wouldn't be selling a lot of them. This was a good move on their part.
Not being a sell out isn't a bad thing. It just means they had a lot more units to satisfy the demand. If they originally shipped out 500,000 to NA.... anybody who didn't have a pre-order would be finished.
But they shipped 1,000,000 and thats about 350,000 extra units as of today for off-the shelf purchasing.
So the surplus of units to the NA caused good sales, and encouraged even more considering it wasn't sold out.
Hence.... sites saying the PSP did well but was not a spectacular sell out.
I guaruntee they will not sell out in EURO either, only because they will be shipping out more than what they planned for Euro.... from 500,000 units to 1,000,000..... so everyone will have their share... pre-order or not.

Re: Where do you play your PSP?
Hmm... IGN had said something about Sony claiming PSP would sell one million in two days.
But then again, IGN's run by a bunch of idiots.

The correct arguement against Kyozu's post would be pointing out that GBA (and I think GBA SP) both also launched in the early-mid year 'off-season' and sold quite well...
Now by no means are the PSP sales horrible, but I think everyone was expecting a bit more from the outrageously sexy handheld brought to you by the runaway leader of the console market...
Just nobody be too quick to write off PSP as another Game Gear or Neo Geo Pocket Color...
I can't help but wonder though, if PSP had launched with only 500,000 units and sold out, would people look at the launch as more of a success than they are with the 1mil shipped and 600,000-700,000 sold? *strokes beard*
Alls I know is that PSP is amazing and has been thoroughly entertaining me for the past few days, and if it dies off after only a couple years I'm gonna have to bust some heads...

I wasn't trying to argue his point at all. I was just trying to add what other sites are saying.
I think anyone who is writing off PSP as another game gear or neo geo pocket color would be an idiot. Neo Geo isn't a household name like Sega or Sony, so that's obviously why they failed, and the reason Sega's system failed was mainly because it was released at the wrong time. There wasn't as big of a market in gaming as there is now, especially with the older gamers that are willing to spend big bucks for better graphics. Back then, the majority of people buying handheld systems was teens and adults buying for kids, and obviously the better pricepoint and name-power that is Nintendo GameBoy ruled supreme.

I prefer GT4 to GTA.
Oh yeah, I own a PSP... and I play it at home, school, or on trips. I don't have time for it at work.

Yeah, but a lot of people already have GTA on their console, and might not feel the need to carry it around with them.
Sonic was pretty popular in the 90s as well, and Sega still didn't succeed. I don't think one franchise alone will make PSP a success, I think it's the amount of franchises they have that will make it a success.
