Mario Kart DS: Online Meeting thread/Friend codes

Im a little confused on the whole "friends" thing. I entered all of you guys friends codes in, so does that mean it will automatically alert me when one of you guys are online? Or do we have to actually get together online to pick a specific time to get linked up as being friends?

You can turn that notification on and off.

Edit: Nevermind, I see it. But I technically dont have any "Friends" until we are both online at the same time and they approve it right?
