I don't really see how many of those films could be considered "cookie-cutter" CGI films, mostly noting Toy STory (which was the first) and the Final Fantasy films.
While I agree that the trend of pumping out as many CGI movies as studios can (especially ones with cute animals doing cute things)is annoying, I don't see how a movie could be considered bad ot cookie-cutter just because its CGI.

Opposed to studios pumping out as many human-oriented movies as they can?

Re: TMNT Return to the Big Screen
I agree with Dyne to a certain extent. The main companies making similar themed films at the same time...Finding Nemo and Shark Tale, Antz and A Bug's Life. And now Ant Bully. Jerry Seinfeld has a CGI movie coming out called Bee Movie but it's Seinfeld and involves bees suing humans for the use of honey so I'm fine with it. Madagascar and The Wild...can you get more similar? Still not sure about Flushing Away and Ratatouille. And the use of famous actors to plug the movie is the worse. The cast of Shark Tale was sickeningly Hollywood.
Here's some more info on TMNT. Glad about the no name actors. Plus I heard they all record in the same room which is almost never the case so there's some improv too.

With the teaser trailer now online, Superhero Hype! has learned a few more bits about TMNT--the first all CG animated "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie--at Comic-Con in San Diego. We've also posted four new character posters that were on display, which you can find here!
- Writer-director Kevin Munroe was present and revealed five minutes of footage from the anticipated film, which is set after the second live action movie.
- He said that the film will feature hidden jokes from the comics and animated series.
- Splinter will be voiced by Japanese actor Mako. The other voices will be announced in a month, but they are not well-known celebrities.
- Shredder is not the villain in the story, though he does make an appearance, which might set up the conflict for the sequel.
- Expect Casey Jones and April to develop a relationship.
- Marco Beltrami is doing the score, and they are looking to create a theme for the "Turtles" CG movies, something memorable like the "Batman" theme.
- One of the scenes shown features a turtle dressed up for a kids party, and the kids beat him up, with one of the little girls kicking him in the balls. A lot of action scenes were also shown, like the turtles on skateboards, hang gliders, etc.
- The movie features a bat character and female ninja characters.
- There is a human villain, who may or may not be named Winter.

Bat? If Wingnut and Screwloose are there...me a happy camper.
EDIT: More info: http://www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=23927 and four turtle posters

Re: TMNT Return to the Big Screen
and what about all the similar normal movies coming out around the same time? what about the sudden increase in every comic/superhero movie coming out.. and all the big actors they use the 'plug' the movies?
i just dont see a difference at all. thats just how movies are. seems the same whether they're animated or real or what have you.

Re: TMNT Return to the Big Screen
Comic book movies are cashcows. And name two recent live action movies that came out within a couple months that have almost identical plots. It's also more noticeable with CGI films since there are far less of them and thus even odder that there would be so many similar ones.

Re: TMNT Return to the Big Screen
Over The Hedge was the best CGI movie I've seen in a while. Apparently it sucked though, because no one has seen it. It had a nice cast, but hey, actors are actors. Indie or big.
Spiderman and Batman Begins come to mind when we talk about non-cookie cutter movies. The original X-men too. No one mentioned that the original Turtle movies sucked, and are really cult classic titles. Much like the Street Fighter and Mortal Combat movies. I enjoyed all of them, but looking back today, I understand why they are cult classics.

Re: TMNT Return to the Big Screen
Original turtle movies sucked? If didn't like those what part of the TMNT craze was even slightly enjoyable for you?

Again, I enjoyed all of them. But they are enjoyable in different ways than say, Snatch, or Clerks, or Dr. Strangelove. I said the critics didn't enjoy the movie, which is true.
