Little Miss Sunshine was freaking great. I saw it tonight with the amigos.
I think if I'm going to check Snakes on a Plane, I'll make someone else buy my ticket. :P

Re: snakes on a plane
Snakes on a Plane would have been a crappy serious movie. But, it wasn't. Instead, it contained a bunch of situational and almost slapstick comedy (the guy in the restroom flailing around with the snake on him).
Before I saw this thread, I was highly opposed to seeing this movie. The next day after I read this, I skipped seeing Talladega Nights.
According to IMDB:
Talladega Nights: 6.6 stars
Snakes on a Plane: 8.4 stars
Is that not evidence enough?
If that 8.4 rating sticks, it'll be rated between 36-49 in the top 250 movies of all time. That's right next to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, To Kill a Mockingbird, Taxi Driver, and Se7en.
See it... in a theatre. But, bring the right attitude, bitch!

Re: snakes on a plane
i was actually suprised that it got away with a 14A rating here. It seemed to be more of an R rating to me. But none the less it still kicked ass.

Re: snakes on a plane
I can't believe the attention this movie is getting. I saw it tonight. There was no humor. If there was, it was black humor (not a racial term).
For months, this movie has been circulating the internet in all kinds of form as some golden comedy. But to me it seems like it was a 'serious action' movie and I think that's what the creators intended it to be.
I don't know, maybe I need a second viewing?

This is up there with Manos: The Hands of Fate for one of the stupidest movies, yet still gaining a following.

Re: snakes on a plane
Definately the most fun you'll have in a theater this year up until this point...doubt it'll be topped later in the year either.

I really enjoyed it...but that's a crock. Right next to, among others, To Kill a Mockingbird? That's just not right...

No kidding, I agree with you. And, thankfully, that rating had dropped to a 7.8.
The reason why it got such a high rating was because the target audience was the internet-hypers. So, having had its roots in the internet, I suppose there was plenty of reason for it to have had an early high score (that is, before real viewers got a chance to post their opinion).
When I did check the detailed ratings, I saw polarized opinions (even when it was 8.4). Believe it or not, Snakes on a Plane consisted of mostly 10s and 1s.
But, I took it that this thread was joining the fake hype and making the movie feel large than life. I joined into the mood, enduced the fake "placebo" affect, of sorts, and actually enjoyed the movie to its fullest.
Sadly, the biggest realization was that, with the right motivation... almost any movie could be a Snakes on a Plane.

You make some good points...but I'm not so sure about this. I see what you mean, but I could very easily see a movie fail miserably at an attempt of replicating a snakes-type film.
But you're right in the sense that the concept is far more valuable than the integration in a movie like this...you don't need a genius behind the scenes to pull it off.

I suppose I agree. Intentional cheese is much more acceptable than genuine (accidental) cheese. A good example would be comparing Evil Dead 2 (or even Army of Darkness) to the first Evil Dead. The first one seemed genuinely bad, while the other two made fun of themselves and were, therefore, more enjoyable.
But, I think it has a large part to do with the viewer's mindset when watching the film. That is, if someone where to watch Evil Dead after hearing about every cheesy part of the film, thinking that the cheese was 100% intentional, I'm sure they'd fall in love with it.
Evil Dead is cool, as a horror film and a comedy... but it's one of those movies I'd much rather call a comedy, whether that was its intent or not.
If not for the internet hype, I would've called Snakes a terrible thriller akin to Anaconda. Instead, I viewed its cheese as tongue-in-cheek and enjoyed it.

Re: snakes on a plane
This movie failed for one reason, and it was because it was rated R. The studio, in fact, upped the rating to R after recieving online feedback, which is hilarious.
If the studio had kept it to PG-13, you would be seeing an incredible success. The idea that the studio would intentionally market this movie to a younger audience and then prohibit that audience from seeing it boggles the mind.
