Re: If you're going to the video store...
Personally, I think people should keep rented videos long after the due date has expired. The money charged for the late fee is what keeps the economy from partying like its 1929

Re: If you're going to the video store...
Solution to all: just don't go to the video store.
Make the life of the Blockbuster employee easy and just use Netflix. No late fees. Over 60,000 titles to choose from. And several different payment plans which allow unlimited rentals per month.
Skip the middleman and get great movies straight from the convenience of your mailbox.
And if you really like a movie, get a computer savy friend to make a copy of it before you return it.
Netflix. Rentals made easy.

Re: If you're going to the video store...
I used to go to Blockbuster all the time. As a wee lad I loved looking at the covers to all the horror movies. They had some nice video game kiosks in the snes/genesis days and I rented games up until the early cube years. Especially liked renting carts with high score tables. Would rerent the same game later on and could see if my highscore was beaten or not. We then switched to Netflix for movies and I stopped renting games; pretty much stopped playing my cube altogether. The establishment was there for as long as I can remember but it closed down last year. I guess Netflix and the like cut into them good.

Re: If you're going to the video store...
How about this? How about people in the service industry actually think "the customer is always right" and do whatever the **** it takes to maintain our business?
Having a job is not a right. Owning business isn't either.
I'll leave my dvd's wherever the **** I want and you can deal with it, because THATS YOUR ******* JOB!! DO IT AND STOP BITCHING OVER EVERY LITTLE THING AND KNOW HOW LUCKY YOU ARE TO HAVE EMPLOYMENT!!
If a person is pissed, its your job to make them happy and leave them with a positive view of your company. If a customer brings in a dog, have a plstic bag on hand and be happy to scoop up that dog's ****. If a movie is always out... GET MORE. If someone leaves a movie in the wrong place, PUT IT BACK.
Your job is to do whatever the **** you need to do to keep the customer happy and business moving. Any other mindset is a reflection of ignorance, laziness and a false sense of entitlement.
/rant
BTW, this was a rant aimed at a general audience and not just at Dyflon (please don't take it too personally) but it bothers me when people try and tell consumers how to act properly, as if it is the customer who is priveleged to shop there.
For the record I am always polite to cashiers and service people because I work in the service industry. I am a Account Executive/Trainer. Its my JOB to keep people happy and provide great service. Plus, I work with Realtors, who are a little worse than rabid ferrets when it comes to disposition. I know what it's like, but I never expect people to change. They are who they are. Deal with it and realize that it is your job to do what it takes to get the place running smoothly and keep customers happy.

So if I want my bagboy to stack all 100 items into one paper bag, but I dont want the bag to be heavy, or break, or overflow, I can legitamately get mad at him when it does?
When I say "A 6'' sub is reduced to a penny, as of today, so that's all I'll pay." I'm right?

Re: If you're going to the video store...
I'm willing to go the distance to make customers happy, but I thought it would be fun to list my grievances with customers like Gink did.
Anywhere you work, there will be minor things that annoy you about customers.
I don't like it when customers leave stuff all over the place. But I still pick up after them and reorganize the wall and etc. etc.
I like my job and all that. But after going through the same annoying stuff over and over it does get to you.
I am allowed to be bothered by stuff that customers do. It's mostly human nature. But just because I'm bothered doesn't mean I won't go that extra mile to make a customer happy. Because I always do. Often at great inconvenience to myself. Because that's my job.
Though it would be great if more customers took into consideration, the people who work at the establishments. It's as simple as not making a mess, or being more patient when something has gone awry that is out of an employee's control.
I don't agree with the mind set that it's okay to go into a store and make a mess because someone else should have to clean up after you because it's their job. I personally think that is a lazy and inconsiderate attitude. Instead of leaving food all over your table at a fast food restaurant, or dumping your popcorn on the floor, or messing up the walls at the video store, take that few seconds to clean up after yourself. Generally retail jobs and the like aren't incredibly challenging but people who work at these places still have a lot that they need to get done. Making a big mess just adds to that pile. It's simple consideration for your fellow man.
And if someone have to argue from the stand point that they shouldn't have to be considerate, well then, I guess that's not a person I can respect very much.
Oh and also: People really should stop stealing crap from my store. That's the most inconsiderate thing of all.

To be fair, that has to be the mindset.
It's your job to re-order, not their job to not do as they please.
I mean, they dont re-stock the shelves, they dont vaccuum the floor, they dont sweep the corners, or shift around stock when needed, because it's your job.
I know what you're saying and all.

Yeah, video stores will go extinct before long.
But I'm riding the good time wave while I can. Because it's better than washing dishes.

Re: If you're going to the video store...
I somewhat agree with the Professor. YOu can't expect customers to do all that stuff...but at the same time. THere are some limits.
I have one requirement for customers, know what the hell you want.
