Re: GTA IV Hype Thread
Because I know you guys won't all be insulted when I say this:
I think 10s should be reserved for games that innovate a lot and are perfectly executed.
When I look at GTA IV, I wonder what's new. Multiplayer, what else? (Edit: ok, a friend just told me about the amazing detail of this game. That's cool, but it's still an evolution of what they did in the previous GTA games, imo)
I see the graphics and think "decent, I'd give it an 8 or 9."
Thoughts?

Well, I hope this doesn't sound like I'm mad at ya or anything, of which I'm not. Just pointing out some stuff's or whatever.
10 doesn't mean a game is completely perfect. It means it's damn near perfect. All games have flaws. GTA IV is no exception. Biggest "complaints" I've seen is some pop-in in the 360 version (heard PS3 has some too but not so bad), controls a smidge wonky but nothing that seems to deter the score, and some missions extremely difficult.
10 means this is something you don't see very often. Yeah, we've all seen/played GTA before. But from reviews, it seems like it took all of what was good about the other GTA's and made it better. Better controls, obviously a crapload better graphics (not quite as good as games like Gears of War but they are still very good).
From sounds of it, the Multiplayer aspect is very fun also. Yeah, it may not have the depth of Multiplayer like say Call of Duty 4, but obviously GTA's multiplayer is worth the investment also.
So..yeah. Ten to me means this is a damn good game, and it should be tried out at some point. You may not like GTA which not all will. Everyone's tastes are different. Considering alot of reviews are averaging 10/100/A+, this will be one of the few games worth their full price.

Re: GTA IV Hype Thread
Yes I will get the 360 version.
Perfect 10?!?!? I read somewhere in that review that some parts aren't perfect, which makes me ponder what justifies a 10? Hm.....to be honest I'd say no game should be deserving of a 10 unless it's pure "PERFECT" on every level. Graphics, story, gameplay, sound, online, everything! I'd say it's prolly worthy of a 9.8 but ye, I will buy it and cannot wait.
Preordered it

People question that every time any game receives a score of 100%...
I think reviewers kind of already take into account the fact that "no game is flawless" when coming up with their ratings system and handing out the scores...
IGN, for example, doesn't call a 10 "perfect", they call it "masterful"...
The whole debate is like "But this one goes to eleven" in reverse...
If 10 was known to be some sort of symbolic impossibility, then 9.9 would be known as the highest possible score and be in the exact same position that 10 is in now... Which, in the end, would just make things less rounded...

Well I guess the whole thing is, nothing can be perfect. Perfection is never without some kind of flaw. So calling it 'masterful' is a wise choice of words.
I think a lot of ppl don't know it, but ur right, it's kind of like a guideline of how good a game is, even tho it's not perfect in every possilble way
