I mean, you're supposed to have this happy ceremony celebrating these games and the saddest thing possible just happened. I couldn't even really watch the ceremonies because of it. If you are talking about the luge then lighten up...those guys are crazy as fuck; as Robin Williams joked: What drunken, German gynecologist invented this sport? What guy went, "I want to dress like a sperm, shove an ice skate up my ass, and ride balls first down an ice chute. Ya. That would be fun." ?

Was it a tragedy....yes. Could there have been better safety precautions....probably. Is there still an extreme risk in participating in any extreme sport be it nascar, snowboarding, extreme skiing, dirtbiking, the one where they flip their snowmobile, the luge, etc. ....YES.

I thought the opening ceremonies were good. The Winter Olympics are so much better than the Summer ones.

Yeah it was disappointing with the final hydraulic failure but it was bound to happen.

We watched the luge trials today and even though they lost 10 stories on their start (by moving to the women's start), they were going goddamn fast.

Instead of making a new thread, I just thought I'd post in here how pumped I am that Canada broke the record for most Golds ever won by any country at the Winter Olympics.

I'm very surprised too. It seemed like everyone thought Canada would struggle getting Golds, to begin with. I think I heard somewhere that the record for most medals won was by Germany, with 36, and the Americans got 37 this time, but I really have to check on that first.

I don't think I'm going to watch. I wasn't very impressed with the opening ceremony this time and I have other things I need to get done.

The thing I liked about the closing ceremony (I stopped watching because my head started hurting too much - no that's not a jab at the ceremony itself) was it started with them raising the last pole that failed in the opening ceremony. I thought that was pretty funny.

Also: There was so much lip syncing that it made me sick. I hate how the Olympics are all about that now.

The closing ceremony reminded me of the Mummers Parade.
