Dyne, you might want to check your soul... it might be dying. Maybe you think the humor was forced into the first game since it didn't explain many things and simply presented them as they were. But once you're done with this, you should understand everything and see how everything falls into place and complements things. That's the only reason I can think you didn't like the mood of the first one. But this one ties all of these loose ends. You'll find out why Glados acts the way she does, her origins and why everything ended up how it is. And then you'll see nothing is forced into the game or takes away from it. Portal 2 does a great job of explaining and giving you all the clues as to why things are how they are and the way they present all the back-story is interesting and well thought out.
The Humor in Portal is very funny and even though it can seem absurd it is well justified in the story and elements they chose for it. The AI on Glados and every other robot/computer/whatever is advanced but still flawed in some ways. Its creator (Cave Johnson) was a genius but also a bit nuts which shows how things came to be. Other things are explained in this game and many more things will make sense to you but I don't want to spoil it for you.
